High Idle

I'm having a problem with my 91RS and has gotten worse.
Mine started when I drove from Arkansas to Nashville Tn. I was about 5 hrs into the trip when i notice my Idle shot up wile on the freeway, seemed like i had the cruz on when I took my foot off the gas and sputterd for a split second when accelerated. When i stopped for fuel, My Idle was high, infact when I pulled up to the gas station it finaly came back down then it died before i could get it in park, i was about 30 min out from Nashville. When i filled up, the car wouldnt start. I let it sit for about 10 min and it finaly started but it was nasty and very rich smelling. Once i arrived to Nashville,I let it idle in the drive and it would die after 3-4 min so I changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and tested TPS, there was no resistance what so ever when i tried to turn it with a screwdriver so I replaced that as well, Now the only way I could get it to start was holding the butterflys open with a screwdriver, once it would run, i removed the screwdriver and killed the engine, it would start back up without opening the butterflys but it now idles at 35K and burns extreamly rich. I thought maybe the new was bad but tested it with an OEM meter and the resistance is fine. I pulled the IAC and tested the resistance as well and its inbetween the limmits as specified. But its extreamly dirty and apperas if its not opening to let air in, the entire come was dirty but there was a ring at the base that was untouched (not dirty) The funny thing is it never blew any codes until i tuned it up (code 23 and code 15) but now i have replaced the TPS, It doesnt blow any codes ( after i cleared the history) Any idea's?

Bad or soon to go bad E-PROM or ECM. My buick was doing that for the longest time. Id have to go tap on the computer and it would just work. It sounds to me like your camaro is relying on the CALPAK chip (limp home mode) to run.

Still having the same issue, So far i have replaced the plugs, rotor, wires, cap and button, also replaced the TPS, IAC. Now i'm waiting for the MAT to arrive. The ECM seems to be fine. If the MAT doesnt solve the issue, I will replace the E-Prom (May even get a high performance) or have the Cat checked out. I'm still stuck in Nashville..lol

well, i posted where you put this first, so my long winded explination is in there, you should probly go read it. but i agree with hypsi on this one, sounds like a PCM. (ok everyone, ECM stands for Electronic Control Module, could me any number of modules, the computer that controls engine functions is called the PCM, Powertrain Control Module)

Sorry about the double post, after adding my issue to some one else issue, I figured i would have better results starting my own, I tried to delet the old but I guess it stayed.
Just an update, I replaced the MAT and O2 but nothing changed. I'm running out of money and skipin on borrowed time. Needles to say i'm still stranded in Nashville. The only solution is call the local bone yard and hope to pick up a used ECM. I ended up pulling all the new plugs out tonight and cleaned them, they were covered with black soot. Thats just from starting the car in the driveway periodicly testing for changes with new parts installed. The only thing i can explain my problem is like the old days on carbed cars by advancing the timming just a tad to get that lil extra out of it (high school days) lol
also i noticed i had no pressure when I unscrewed the gas cap, thought that was very strange because i always had some type of pressure when I had done so, I ran a can of sea-foam threw the TBI and tank is how i noticed the lack of pressure.

you advanced the timing???? did you disconnect the timing connector to do this??? your distributor is electronicly controlled, you cant just turn it like an old carbed engine. you have to disconnect the timing connector, and then set the timing, turn it off, and then reconnect it. then start it up again.

No, TIMING was not advanced, Please re-read the thread! :nono:
Thats the only way of explaining the way the car is acting, was like the OLD days when the timing was advanced on carbed engines. The only thing I have done was changed plugs, wires, cap, button,TPS (Dead), IAC, O2,Temp Sensor (Dead) MAT. Still had the same problem. I orderd the ECM and it should be here by 2 PM today. I went ahead and got the Hypertech prom wich will be here next Tuesday. Going to replace both regardless if my stock prom is good :smokin:
Figured what the hell, seems like ever time i opend the hood, there was an arm extended out with a credit card slider. Think i'll just install one on the dash like the ones wal-mart has :cwm27:

My car idles high so I just adjust the idle speed on the card but you cant do that so, I dont know what to say.
