Engine Swap

I am looking at getting a Chevelle that has a 350 in it, because I cannot find a one with a 454, or afford one right now. So, if I do get a Chevelle with a 350 in it, how difficult is it to eventually swap out the 350 for a 454?

should drop right in. you'll need different headers and bigger coils in the front. make sure the tranny and diff are strong before doing this

I did it not all that long ago on mine. I blew up the first 454 that came in it and dropped a 350 in it. I am back to a 454 now. The swap was pretty easy. I think the only thing I bought that was different as far as being able to just bolt it up was motor mounts. I just bought those because the old ones were pretty ragged looking. Make sure when you do go to the 454 you get the right power steering brackets. There is a clearance problem if you don't.

actually....if the car came with a small block, you have to swap out the front subframe for a big block one to withstand the extra weight and power difference, or you can beef up your current subframe so save more work

Actually, the Chevelles don't have sub frames. They are a full frame car. There is no difference in the frames from a 6 cylinder car to a big block one. Just motor mounts and springs.
