hi, i use to own a 86 corolla gts, plan to switch to a 91-95 mr2, do a jspec 3sgte swap(the engine with 250 hp) since most mr2 are 90,000 miles to 120,000+. but i kno almost nothing about a mr2. so i humbly ask if some of you can answer some of my question
does alot of work needs to be done to put a jspec 3sgte to replace the engine on a 91 mr2 turbo? will it be complicated or easy as a sr20det in a 240, assuming nothing is wrong with the car before the swap.
also. if anyone would happen to kno a place where i can research / get a jspec 3sgte. a web site would be cool. or any other kinds of info would be great. (currently live by SF moving to LA soon)
thanks again for answering

the engine you are talking about is the 3rd generation engine just to let you kno when you are looking arround, and it comes with 245hp... but be warned that you will not get that much hp out of the engine due to the jdm ecu being programed for 100 octane i believe (yes, no?) you dont need to the 3rd generation 3sgte to make that much power... one of the reasons why this engine makes 245hp and the american's has 200 is because 1. the ecu like i said and the 2. the turbo... the 3rd gen 3sgte comes with an upgraded ct26 turbo "ct20b"... i dont know how hard or easy it is to do the swap since i have never done it... but i am guessing that it would be easier to just rebuild the engine and buy an aftermarket turbo... it will be easier than swaping the entire engine and less of a hassle

a 91-93 would be a gen II and 94-95 would be a gen III?
so what you are saying is. if i just get the ecu upgrade and change the turbo to ct20 for a usspec 3sgte it would same as swaping a jspec motor?
i am kind of planning to have a mr2 turbo with 280+ hp and not over 350. would it be a better idea to buy a us spec turbo mr2, rebuild engine, get a better ecu and put in a aftermarket turbo? (like turbonetics t3/t4) then swaping the jspec 3sgte?
p.s are 91-95 turbo all the same motor in usa?

yes 91 - 93 are gen II gen III is 94 +... and i think that there were some engine mods from 93 - 94 but in not sure... i kno that the n/a model had 130hp in 1993 and then 135 in 1994 +... probably just some minor upgrades to the engine... what do u mean when u "then swap to the jspec?"....

what i was tryin to say was...what is better
1. get a usspec 3sgte, rebuild, change ecu and get aftermarket turbo or
2. get a usspec mr2 and swap jspec 3sgte

well, if you get an aftermarket turbo and ecu, hopefully it would make more than 25 or 45 more HP, so therefore it would be better, right?! but thats like comparing apples to oranges. an upgraded engine will be better than the stock engine even if they are a little different

to add to this, can you buy a new ecu to change the 100 octane programming? Also how much would installation be?
Thanks
