Little help please. I am trying to determine the size an type of my differential on a 95 5.0 gt convert. I read the metal tag bolted to the rear plate and the set of numbers is;
S229C (I don't know what this is)
3L27 885 B03
Guessing here;
3.27 Gear
L for non-limited slip?
88 for 8.8 pinion gear
5 model year
B03 don't know.
Can anyone help out here? I am planning on installing a set of 3.73's and don't know if I need to order and replace the limited slip clutch if it has one. Thanks.

S229C. S=Sterling axle Plant, 229C model code, most likely for internal plant use.
3L27. L= Trac Lok, with 3.27 gears.
88. 8.8" differential.
5 B03, I believe has to do with build date. What is the axle code as you see it exactly on the tag?

Great! Thanks for the info there HiFlow5 0. The numbers I provided are what is stamped on the axle tag. The AX code on the door jam tag says its a "E". But then I am unsure of that.
Now since this has a Trac Lok, does have a limited slip clutch and should I replace it while I am changing out the 3.27's to 3.73's?
Thanks again.

The AX door tag code "E", also refers to 3.27 Trac-Lok.
Replacing the clutch pack isn't totally necessary in a gear swap if there isn't many miles, but it's a good idea to ensure you won't have any problems. There are 3 clutch plates in the rear, a lot of times the tabs break off the plate which is easily visible when the diff cover is removed. I would say, have it rebuilt while its open for the gear swap.

Ok cool. Where can I get the clutch plates any specific brand or make recommended? Over even better can I order them through an online vendor like summit racing? All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks HiFlow you've been a great help.
