I have a rattle which I suspect comes from inside one or more of my struts when starting out cold --then disappears. Have double checked everything else. Has anyone heard of this?

it can vary, usually you will get some noise when it is very cold, somewhat normal, common problem for strut noise is the upper strut mounts, either loosen up or just wear, try tightening 19mm nuts on top of strut, if does not tighten , usually need to replace,
it is possible might need struts, check for leaks
one other thing, are you sure strut noise, timing belt can be very noisy when cold, belt slaps cover when cold, gives rattling noise, goes away when warm, had belt been done and what is mileage, sounds like this could be your noise, check it out

hey, this explains that weird noise when on cold morning start ups. even though i had the timimg belt replaced at 100K. mechanic said it was no wonder it lasted as long as it did. also had water pump replaced, big heat difference.
