Help- 1992 astro van 150,000 miles.2wd. This van has a random shake that feels like its traveling over speed bumps or the ripples that are formed into blacktop that are on the edges of the highway. It happens between 40-60 mph and stops when I let off the gas. Van has new tires and alignment.U-joints? transmission? any ideas?

I am having a similar problem. I also have new tires on my van(BF Goodrich all terrain). The symptoms were a shaking steering wheel while accelerating and braking and it stopped after about 50 MPH or so. It also felt as if I was going over ripples at times. Had it checked at the place of purchase, the tires were underinflated and they suspect the shocks are bad. They inflated from 30 to 38psi. I noticed a great improvement in the shaking and hope to put new shocks in this weekend.

Check your idler arms. They are notoriously failure prone on this vehicle. I've gone through about 5 sets in 236,000 miles. The cheap ones are about $50 each. Better ones are about $100 each. You have two of them. They are located under the front end bolted to the first major frame piece, one on each side. On AWD vehicles, they are identical. On 2WD, they are two different parts.

On a previous thread, someone recommended Moog replacement parts. So, I just replaced mine with Moog. Moog has a lifetime warranty which to me easily justifies the extra cost.

Good luck.
