I have a vtec motor in a 95 prelude and I would like to know when exactly does the turbo kick in at, and would it be pointless to change my vtec to kick in at a lower rpm? Currently the vtec kicks in at 5,000 rpm, would there be any point in my lowering the vtec to kick in earlier if i am getting a turbo put in my engine?

to answere that question we would need to know more.. Such as what type of turbo T3, T3/4, T3/04E etc..

A turbo wont jsut kick in. if you size it right you'll start to feel boost at around 3k and then you will get max boost higher than that at like 5 and a half. I dont own a honda but i do have a decent idea of how vtec works and it doesnt seem to me like you will be getting all of the potential that you can out of the turbo with vtec. i have also heard this from some other people. It just doesnt seem like a good idea to mess with duration and timing (lift yes but not duration and timing) under high boost.

someone correct me if i am wrong

The turbo spool up depends on
1. size of the turbine wheel
2.trim desigen of the turbine wheel
3. turbine housing design
3. impeller wheel size
4. fuel raito
5. exahust pressure
6. exahust heat.
7. accuall airflow into the eingine.
8. The ammount of fuel that is being burned
9. how well everything is in tune with eachother.

There is no direct connection to RPM's and spoolup. A turbo will spool up and make boost at half throttle. at 2k rpms in overdrive. Its not like a shot of nitrous that is wired to a rpm switch or v-tech that relys on engine RPM to activate.
