you need to disconnect the diverting hose from the BOV. right now it's prob connected and divering the air back into the intake. also, is your BOV stock? if it is, then consider getting an aftermarket one before doing it.

Is that bad, or does it not really matter.

That
That

no it's not bad. it just diverts the remaining air back into the intake. doesn't really make a difference if you vent it out in the air.

oh make sure you seal the end of the hose that's connected to the BOV so dirt doesn't get into the intake.

What could i use to do that? Can you buy something or does it gotta be homemade.

Can you take off the plastic cap and put a new one on? Or do i have to buy a whole new BOV?

The downside of releasing the air to atmosphere is that it has already been metered by the mass air sensor (MAS), and when it blows off the ECU will be injecting the wrong amount of fuel into the cylinders.(The MAS reads ten air units, say, and the ECU tells the injectors to squirt the right amount of fuel for ten air units. But then five of those air units are vented off to atmosphere, and only five make it to the cylinders, and five more have to be drawn from the outside air, through the MAS again) so the engine temporarily runs extremely rich, meaning too much fuel is injected into the cylinders.
This temporary rich condition isn’t usually that harmful, but it can cause bucking or hesitation on lift-throttle.If the condition is really bad it can eventually foul spark plugs and even clog the catalytic converter.(Unburned fuel on the cat burns very hot, and too much of it can melt the cat).
^ I read this from a site..what do you think?

no debate.. get rid of that crap... a BOV will only cost you $200 :D

slow down there bucko [rice]... you won't hear your BOV at speed, i barley hear mine with the top down. as far when you are going slower, it will make the most noise going from 2nd to 3rd... venting the BOV isn't always the greatest idea. it can make your idle messed up and make you backfire too. and you already have a 1G BOV, no need to upgrade at all [well not for a while]. and it's funny [ricerocket] keep calling it a 'diverter' lol... whatever... [romain] you may want to look into a boost controller if you don't already have 1, and also a fuel pump upgrade, like a 190lph... as far as the intake pipe is concerned, make sure you do the dump tube hack, then look into aftermarket ones. if you don't know what that is look it up on http://www.vfaq.com.

Yeah i got a Apexi AVC-R II Boost controller..why upgrade the fuel pump?
BoostedSpyder

with higher boost you need more fuel on tap to compensate. more air needs more fuel, right?

Please, don't give people such horrible advice.
First, you don't want to disconnect the recirculation hose from your BOV. It has no purpose whatsoever except to make it louder, and can cause problems.
Second, a BOV upgrade is necessary, however, $200 dollars is not. A used 1g BOV will run you 40-50 dollars. If you really want an aftermarket one, have fun paying 200-400 dollars (some of the expensive ones aren't even as good as the 1g). And once you get a new BOV, put that recirc. tube in it's place.
Stock 1g BOV will hold any boost you'll be running until a serious turbo upgrade is installed. Have fun.

i apologize guys. :shakehead
other than that, that's how you make it louder.

IMHO dont vent your BOV to the atmosphere. It just causes problems wiht a stock 2g MAS (more than its worth for just the extra loud "PsssssssHHH"). Some kids will run vented for years and not notice any driveability issues, but I personally dont think its worth it.

like i said, since you ALREADY have a 1G BOV, you don't need anything. except a bigger fuel pump ;)
