Man it's my fourth day not smoking and I think I'm going to loose my mind. I had no Idea it would be this hard to stop, I figured hey I will just not smoke anymore and get over but no all I want is a cigarette and I feel like shit. The nicorette taste like shit and dosn't help at all. This sucks, this sucks, this sucks.

as someone who has 'given up' many times I can sympathise...good luck! I have been waiting for NickO'Teen to return to wreck to my life for three years...Every time I pour a drink I get the urge to LIGHT UP.
Hope you achieve long lasting success.....if enough of us can quit we could seriously inconvenience the taxation authorities!!!

I've seen many people struggle to overcome smoking. It sure looks tough. Go stand outside in the cold. It might remind you of another reason to continue quitting.

Wait - Alabama - missed that at first. Never mind about the cold. You need to be up here where smokers freeze their asses off for a puff or two.

Yeah I just moved down here from Colorado so I know what it is like to freeze my ass off just so I can polute my lungs. This whole smoking thing is so stupid, I mean I have been paying people so I can poison my body and now that I want to quit I can't get my body to stop wanting the shit.
Well thanks everyone for the ecouragement and believe me I will not start back, this is it no more for me.

It's hard not to want a hit... I wasn't even a heavy smoker, but just being around my friends who all smoke, it was such a hassle to not ask for a cig...
Tough it out. I don't even want cigarettes any more. I can see my friends smoking, and it actually almost grosses me out! You will make it! Keep up the fight!

Steel, I don't know how long you have been smoking but if you are still getting cought by your parents I would guess not long, my advice would be quit now it will be a lot easier then waiting 12 years like I did.

For extra willpower, tally up how much you waste on killin'yourself in a year. Then get the car accesory mags out and figure out what you could have bought this year instead of blowing it on smoke;) .......
Ditch the weed mate,it's stinky,it costs, and the good looking girls don't get off on it.............:p

Hi, new member here. Poked around in the Fiero section, didn't see much going on there. Hope you don't mind me jumping in here. It's really hard to quit smokin allright, it never gets easier than right now. I quit once for six months and started again recently. Never have understood why health insurance companiess won't pay for Zyban. It has got to be cheaper than paying for chemo treatments.

Howdy, well just an update I'm still doing good and it's getting a lot easier. I went out last night with some friends to a couple of bars and when I saw people smoking of course it made me want a cigarette but I find that now I think the smell of smoke is very nasty. Other then that I would like to say hi to halfast  and thanks for joining us here at the forum. Also is that supposed to be Hal Fast or Half Ass. Just wondering.

I'm ready to quit too!!!
My habit is 18 years old now (I'm 36) and I have gone from a 175 lb Marine Corps Sgt to a 210 lb, lethargic blob from smoking. I'm done!!
My friends who have mananged to really quit offer this advice;
1- Clean your home, get the smell out
2- Wash ALL of your clothes, same idea
3- Chuck all ashtrays and lighters
4- Work out
5- Get a new car, smoke free
6- The urge should disipate after 2 weeks
7- After a month, the cravings will be gone!
All the cleaning should help ease your withdrawal as it keeps you active!
I'll prove them all right or wrong starting, tomorrow!!

That is some very good advice your friends are giving you and it is true after about 2 weeks you get used to not smoking but the urge is still there just a lot less. I can say that it has been 19 days now and I still want a cigarette every now and then but the urge is a lot less now then it was the first week (that sucked). So I say go for it, you will feel alot better in just a short time and save a lot of money in the process. Good luck.

Sounds like you got a lot of good advice, Murco. Let us know how progress goes for ya.
As for the rest of you also quitting/trying to quit....don't give up. If ya mess up today, tomorrow's a new day. Alex quit after nearly 10 years of smoking..started when he was 13 or so. He tried a few times after we had started dating to quit and went back to it. He quit for good starting on my birthday in 2000. He gave me a card with a "patch" in it LOL.
For him personally, his biggest issue was the phyiscal need to raise his hand to his mouth...especially in the car cuz he did alot of smoking and cruising...and also when going to sit and bs at a coffee shop. What helped him satisfy that physical need was to buy cinnamon flavored toothpicks and use those for the hand to mouth satisfaction. The patch he wore for only a few weeks....he got a bad batch that wouldn't stick to his skin, but by then he was over the need for the nicotine part. Maybe the toothpick thing might help for those of you having more problem with the physical than chemical need.

Three other things my now-non-smoking-friends mentioned would help when quitting is to also quit drinking caffene (soda, coffee, etc.), getting plenty of sleep, and cutting down on carbohydrate intake (pastas, breads, etc.).
My wife picked-up a carton on Saturday, couldn't believe it! I guess you should also share your quitting plans with those around you as well!!

even though i'm mostly straight edge man i can tell you some of the things that kept me from smoking....
1. have you ever kissed/hooked up with a person that smokes?! they taste and smell like burnt toast from 3 days ago :bloated:
2. having your parents threaten you with castration if you ever tried to smoke any squares:devil:
3. seeing my dad go out of his way to buy explosive cigarettes to give out to the people in his band, so that when they lit them up, they'd be like roman candles sticking out of their mouth:devil:
4. rememberin when my grandpa was still alive and how he used to act if he didn't get his whole carton of fuckin newports every 4 days...:(
5. laughing at the kids at my high school actually tryin to smoke a quick one before school starts in the morning....especially since i live in new england and it's in the dead of winter...and when spring rains hit....:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:
6. laughing at the kids getting busted by security when they try to smoke a square in the bathrooms while you're takin a piss:hehehe: :hehehe: :hehehe: ...and finally
7. looking at the interior of my english teacher's car...the damn thing had at least 300 butts stuck in this ash tray that he glued to the center console.....there were gross ashes spilt all over the carpet and the car was a total mess... i opened his trunk and you could still smell the old cigs through the backseat ...and this was on a windy day............:apuke: :apuke: :apuke: :apuke: :apuke: :apuke:
