96 SOHC running rough?

I was driving home last night and the car ran fine, but when i pulled in the driveway it kinda chugged a little. I got out and listend to the exhaust and could tell it was missing. It has been raining here if that could have anything to do with it. I pulled the plug wires and it is firing. Let me know if anybodt has any ideas. Thanks

Any luck figuring out your problem? Any other symtoms? I just posted a thread concerning a misfire. Don't really know what to tell you as I'm still trying to figure out my own problem but you can read what I've done so far for ideas. I'm going to start looking for vacuum leaks. From what I've read, only the 95 and older models have a replaceable inline fuel filter. The later ones are part of the pump and do not need changed under most circumstances. But I'm not a mopar guy, so I'm learning as I go with these little buzz bombs. I'm actually part of the Ford crowd and the neon is my girlfriend's. Do you have a cobra?

Rainy and damp conditions can cause the spark plug wires to short to the valve cover if they are wearing out. Also check the coil pack connection end for corrosion. Oil on the spark plugs surface can also ground the spark when the resistance gets too high at the plug gap.

That has happened to me at least once a year and it is always the plugs and wires.

I had a similar problem with my Fiance's Neon too. Cylinder 2 was not firing at all. I popped the spark plug wire boot off of the top of the spark plug and it looked okay. A few days later, after a rainstorm it happened again and I removed the boot again...water was in there and I think it was causing it to arc! I just replaced the wires and plugs and it runs like new now. You have to watch that man. Must be another one of those Neon quirks.
