I am about 6`2" tall and 280lb. I was just wondering if looking for a `92 -`96 Hatch or 2dr is right.

If you really like/want the car you'll make it work...

damn you are a big guy lol. One of my friend's is also 6'2" and he had to slide the seat all the way back and his knees still hit the steering wheel when he drove my old civic. I'd suggest something a little bigger, maybe an accord.

Accords have less leg room than a 5th gen civic hatch sad, but true. I am 6' 2' also and have to have my seat about three clicks from hte furthest back position to feel right.

You can make it work. I've seen a website (sorry forgot the website) where they modified the BMW 7 series of Yao Ming so he could drive it comfortably. They modified the seats in such a way it was pushed all the way back so he could have the leg room. You could probably do something like that.

make the hatchback/coupe a 2 seater... take out the backseats n reposition the driver and passenger seat as far back as possible.. that should give all the leg room u need

I am 6'4" and have no problems at all.
I usualy have to tilt the seat back a little but my seat isnt all the way back.
also I set the tilt wheel up and fit fine.
