Building a D?

I posted this on Honda-Tech too, in the exact same words, so dont bitch.
I had planned on doing a b-series swap, but my d16a6 only has 85k on it, so I'm thinking of just building it up.
Is there much aftermarket support for building up the bottom end with rods and pistons and stuff like that. I'm really only looking to dip into the mid to high 13's. Does this sound possible with a d? Would I be better off going turbo or n/a? Would it be best to keep the a6 head or should I get a z6 and do a mini-me swap? Also is there any LSD trannys for the d series? I heard the DOHC zc's came with them, but I'm not to sure about that. Any info would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks guys.

if you posted on honda-tech maybe you just read on honda-tech. i know they have thousands of threads.

Maybe I was trying to get some different opinions. Since I know not everyone on here reads honda-tech.

off the top of my head, if your gonna stay NA plan on at least a mini-me, and don't forget SOHC's love a big cam. For 13s you may wanna skip the head and give www.homemadeturbo.com a try. As far as replacing stuff in the bottom end or head its all avaible you just gotta look. Though a a6 bottom end can take at least 6 psi or so pretty easy since its only 9.1 compression. LSD's did come in the ZC trannies but they are rare, kazz and quaife both make aftermarket units you can buy. This is all just some general info i'm sure others can go further with that or give you other ideas to try.

most home made turbo kits on stock d series engines will net mid to high 13s.
this will be pretty difficult naturally aspirated, but it can be done.
VTEC head, minor port work, upgraded valve train, large cam (i personally like the zex/comp 59300), 4-1 header, large diameter intake, forged rods, very high compression pistons (12:1 atleast), and great tuning with a higher rev limiter. In a 2000 lb car with slicks, you could hit 13s possibly.
think of it this way.. a stock b16 in an EF will usually net about 14.8-15.2 with 160hp. You'd need to gain about 50-60hp on the d series to make 175-185hp @ flywheel, and with lesser weight of the d series in a light chassis, 13s are on the horizon.

hey let me be the first one to say it....
Nah man...don't waste ur time on that D series. Get a B16 like me man...
Nah j/k. I don't have a Bseries (yet). There is potential. Hey Habib88, I thought the A6 had a compression near 9.5? I could be wrong...im just too lazy to look it up. I can see you easily running in the mid 13's. Swap the Head for a vtec one. Get a nice cam, some lo-comp pistons or some Z6 pistons (which I believe create a lower compression than A6 pistons), get a nice turbo setup; intercooler, etc. Have the basics: intake, Header, exhaust.... n ull run 13's easy.

Sweet. Things seem to be looking good. I don't want to go nitrous. I would like to go turbo.
Do you guys have any links to some good sites for d-series info/performance?

the ZC LSD is really hard to find
u can get a quaife for a Si or ZC tranny .. but you cant use the equal-length axles on the ZC once you install it..
you can, however, put a JDM Cusco or Mugen LSD in a ZC trans (they are only slightly more expensive than the Quaife).... and i think then you can use the equal length axles... you may even be able to put the JDM LSD in a Si trans and use them....
the quaife is the best unit, however.. as it's not a clutch-type LSD...
the D needs a turbo to be very fast, and is probably the best route if you want to smoke people while still keeping the D-series
you can build a ZC or SOHC VTEC to get 13's but it will take the right parts combo .. high CR .. big cams .. etc
u might want to check out www.dh-racing.com

the tried and true budget route is to use a STD or HF exhaust manifold (the kind that has the cat mounted directly on it) .. and use an adapter plate to mount a turbo where the cat would normally go..
like someone said before.. you can find out more info at www.homemadeturbo.com
www.turbod16.com is another fun site
