Starter solenoids

GM has recently issued a recall for certain vehicles that have ignition switches that may overheat and catch on fire. This is a duplicate of a recall issued in 2002 for the same problem on an earlier vintage of the same models. The recall is to add a relay to the starter solenoid circuit so that the current through the ignition switch is reduced during the cranking cycle. The current through the solenoid is increased with this rework and results in premature starter solenoid failure. We have replaced three starters in sixteen months on a family member's car since the rework was implemented. I would like to know if there are any other people that have had this rework and are experiencing unusual starter failures. Thank you.

I have a 2002. No problems except for the rear latch that was replaced under a recall. Other than that no complaints accept for the horsepower. I agree with the 3800 option. I've owned three GM vehicles with the 3800 motor. It rocks!!!
