safe jackstand placement

Where is the safest place to put jackstands? I see some people put them under the suspension,and some under the jacking points.Just curious.

i use a heavy duty jack on the jack point and i put a jack stand under the suspension just it case (no weight on it--just there for looks). I also put blocks behind the back wheels so the car won't roll.

i put the jack next to the jack point and jack it up, then i put the jackstands under the jack points
