My 1992 galant engine is knocking. It has about 120,000 miles on it, kept in in good shape (maintanece). I have to put about two quarts of oil in it every week. (leak i guess). Just had a new oil change, passed emissons, had new head gaskets put in, new radiator, timing adjusted recently. Not sure what the problems is, could it be that it's just ready to give???

you better be carefull with it. keep putting oil in the car. i had the same problem, but even putting the oil in didn't stop the connecting rod from breaking. Do you have blue smoke coming from your car after idling, or on start-up??? if you do then you have a valve that is sticking. good luck fixing that, i have tried with no luck.

If it's more like a regular ticking than a knocking it is probably the hydraulic lifters getting air bubbles trapped in them. This in itself doesnt do any harm, but wont be linked to your oil loss problem & you should get that checked out !!

This is what's happen to my poor car. I sold it to a friend for very cheap. I told her to make sure she checks the oil every day! Her boyfriend said he could fix the problem. Change oil something or other (gaskets?) Before he had a chance to do that, she died on the highway

She blew a rod because there was not an drop of oil in it. In the end she blamed it all on me. FIGURES.
