4WD auto problem

Hi,

I have a 2000 LT Z71 and am having a problem when in 4WD Auto. The transfer case engages and the differential locks as soon as I engage 4WD auto and it's just like I am in 4HI. I had the transfer case fluid flushed, had a cleaner run through it and then refilled (by the dealer) but the thing still doesn't work properly.
Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

Paul.

i have the same truck and when i put mine in 4x4 auto it in 4x4 hi (like you said) and it takes a little bit of driving to get out of 4x4. what kind of terrain are you on when you notice this?

This happens no matter what the terrain I am on.
It started this winter so I was in snow/ice and didn't really notice it wasn't coming out of 4HI. When I would hit dry pavement (like a parking lot for example) I could hardly turn into a spot because the differential was locked.
The dealer verified the problem and said electrically everything is fine, it just won't come out of 4HI (when I select Auto4WD). 2HI works okay.
I guess I'll have to bring it back and let them have their way with it again. I was hoping someone had a similar problem so I could tell them how to fix it <g>.

i have a 99 and i was having problems with mine as well. it took a long time to engage and then my light would indicate what i was in. i changed the the switch (it is also a sensor) on dash and it fixed it. i have NO problems with that part now.

I had the switch changed several months back and it was working fine up until early December.
The dealer tells me it must be an internal mechanical fault. I just hope it's covered by my extended warranty.

My 2000 Z71 has just started having the same issue. I have read something about sensors in the transfer case malfunctioning. I noticed that after shifting from 4auto to 2hi several times that things began working again. I'll wait to hear what you found out from the dealer as I have no warranty left (naturally) :bs:

I just got word from the dealer - the automatic transfer case module needs to be replaced. It is covered under warranty so I have no idea how much it costs. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
