Hard Start

Sometimes when I try to start my 2000 silverado 4.8l v8, it may crank about 8 to 10 times before it will start. And when it does, if I don't give it a little gas it may die. Other times I have no problems with it starting right up. Replaced to fuel filter today, and did not fix, the throttle body is clean. I was thinking the fuel pump. After this hard start, i notice white smoke may come out the exhaust. Any ideas? Please help.

Does it only happen after being driven? If so, it is probably the fuel regulator. Pull the rubber line off of it and if there is fuel present when it is not running, it is bad. It is located up by the air cleaner on the fuel rail.

Somtimes, it may do it with a cold start or a warm start.
