Oxygen sensor issues

I'm curious to know if any can give me some insight on the universal type oxygen sensors. I've recently purchased a universal type sensor for my, before CAT O2 sensor. The original sensor has 5 wires and the the universal type has only four. What can I do? The guy at BOSCH told me I couldn't use the universal style after I purchased it. I've got a 98 Honda Civic HX manual transmission. Can I route two wires togethere or leave one out? Why is there 5? Please help!!!!!
