those of you who have the type-s bov should know that little nob on top where it says hard(right) and soft(left). how does it work?.. and what does it do say if you turn it CW for a little "hard" and vise versa. :eek7:

ok, here is the deal. the adjustment is the spring stiffness holding the BOV closed. this is a great BOV for my taste, even though some may not agree. i have the adjustments down to 1/4 turns for specific applications i drive in. for racing type environments it is harder, softer for regular driving.

if you are softer then boost is released more easily. so if you barely close the throttle, mad boost is going to vacate. also, it will not hold boost at higher pressures.

conversly harder will keep it shut untill there is enough backed up pressure from closing the throttle it will open.

when i'm racing i want it to hold no matter what, so it gets turned harder. when i'm in a canyon there is a fine balance. because i'm driving mostly in 2nd gear with hard accelerations and little clutch play i want it so it will not hold all the boost in [causing hiccups; air forcing the throttle to be open for a split second longer], but not blow it all out [causing massive deceleration in a split second]. it is a fine adjustment. if i want to vent it to the air i have to turn it up 3/4 harder than at normal driving settings. this all may seem confusing, but it makes sense to me.

there is also a point of adjustment where you can get it to make a sweet whistle sound. not high pitched or anything like phu-issssss-shhheeeww. you just have to find it.

i would recomend making a mark on a point on the screw [i made mine at 9 o'colck] for referece. then adjust 1 full turn harder [you are now at +1 in reference to what is 'normal' for your car, + = hard, - = soft]. drive around the block or down a deserted street and feel the difference. now adjust it to -1 [2 full turns soft from +1, get it?]. drive around and see how you like it. hope that helps a bit

hummmmm.... i wish they could just mark that sweet spot for you right out. :newbie: :screwy:

that being said.. i like the way it sounds right now. it's just fine. :grinno: but thanks for the information. i find that very helpful and fully answered my question . :bananasmi

BOOSTEDSPYDER-If the BOV doesn't let all of the boost out during the shift will this cause premature wear on anything of concern?

compressor surge is when the air goes the other way [back twards the turbo], well it would be the only way to go [gas laws: high pressure wants to equalize, meaning it will go towards low pressure, or a way out] if it wasn't let out of the BOV. this is not a good thing. it will also cause hiccups like i talked about in the 2nd post...

When I let off I can hear my BOV, but after that I hear a whistle/whining sound, what does that mean?
