1993 driver side door latch

My son has a 93 tbird and has left for the army. Trying to move his car I can't get the drivers side door to latche closed. The "fingers" that go around the door post are closed and I can't get them open. The outside door handle is stuck in the upright position, pulling on the inside door handle doesn't do anything! Pushing the power door lock button moves the lock motor but doesn't move the button. HELP!!! Please!!

You may have to remove the inner door panel as the linkage may be binding. Before you do that, pull the inner door latch handle out and try to pull the "fingers" apart.
