Turbo Gone South

Well, I took my car to my mechanic and told him to have a look because of the problems I've been having with the car, a little later, he broke the news to me, my turbos gone... :disappoin So now I'm faced with a decision, because I cannot replace them due to my quest for power, I KNOW I'm getting bigger and better. Now the question is... which turbo should I get? What's the brand you guys would recommend most? I know now I'm saying this is all I'm gonna do for a while but I have a feeling this is gonna make me go crazy with mods :icon16: . So please give me any advice on what I should do to my baby.

For right now i would have the stock turbo rebuilt. it will cost about $300 and will keep you on the road..I would use a garret turbo...

Thatsa big turbo for someone who has a stock car. I would need to know the goals for the car and the budget before making a recomendation....

You can see that with a basic upgrade to a 14b (1g stock turbo), you can run a pretty fast time for most people. For that reason, I would recommend the 14b... also noticing that they can be bought very cheap (~$150).

yeah partizan, what are you goals? how fast do you want to be? for example: i only want to run mid to high 12's cus im still in high school and my car will be a daily driver...and i already have some plans of what im going to do with the car when i get it, so im pretty set (sort of) ;)

so you tell us what you want to do with ur car and we will help you :D

Hi, thanks for all the replies. Chavez I'm in the same situation as you, I'm in high school as well so I need a daily driver. My car isn't exactly stock, I have bolt ons mostly. Intake, Exhaust, Headers, Short Shifter, basically simple stuff for now, I'm going to get a port polish job and bigger TB. I need something civilized enough for daily driving but naturally I want a fast car. I'm not too crazy about doing bottom end work and I think I should be ok on stock internals with this engine because I know it's pretty reliable. Also, with that big "sbr td-06 20g" I can only imagine what the turbo lag would be like, is that a turbo that everyone recommends or is there something else you think would work better? Thanks for the replies.

the td-05 16g is also good, or get a turbo with a .63 a/r that shoul get you good hp you might also want to to flow 350lb/min that will make over 300hp. and you should see good spoolup. also look into ball bearing turbos if you are worring about turbo lag.

Either 14b or EVO 16g. The tdo6h 20g is my favorite turbo yet, lag isnt bad, but it requires more supporting mods than you are ready to deal with ;) The 14b/16g sized turbos are good for low 12s or better on race gas, wont push the limits of the bottom end, and can be supported one part at a time as you can afford it, and learn how to work on the car.

not to put a damper on this, but turbo cars don't have headers, we have exhaust manifolds, and what kind of intake do you have? by the sound of it, i'm not sure you had a turbo to begin with. your turbo could be gone cuz it was never there. but, if you have an upgraded ex. mani. than you hight have had an upgraded turbo.

when you upgrade you will also need an upgraded BOV, boost controler, a bigger fuel pump, a boost gauge, UICP at the least and a FMIC in the future, and i'm sure there are a couple more little ones. personally i think for $$ concern the 14b is the place to be. if $$ ain't a thing then look into the EVO 16g. you can have minamal support for it [as long as you keep the boost low] and as you build up support, raise the boost.
