Toyota MR2-S

I've been looking at many cars and I've finally decided that the MR2 Spyder is what I want. Anyone else got an MR2 Spyder that could tell me some pros/cons?

Also, anybody plumbed in a custom turbo or intake? Those are my plans, let me know.

lol sorry man but i think that car is slow.. n doesn't really look all that great.. im not even sure what engine it uses. but im sure if u throw in a turbo kit you'll be happy with the speed.. 144hp isn't exactly sportscar material to me hopefully u turbo it.. get around 200hp out of it then yea..

but the car weights nothing. even with like 140hp the car still runs a 15 flat on the 1/4 ( keeping up with a RSX type S) and its a hoot to drive. the only thing i have against it is that how could toyota have gone from a SW20 ( 2nd gen turbo MR2) into this!?!? sorry i love the 2nd gen MR2 and while the new MRS is a great car it just shouldn't be compared to the older models. however to some peoples argument. the MRS is alot more fun to drive because its very tossable. when the MR2 turbo was too heavy ( 2800 ) and change. and it cornered like it was on rails. so its two different camps here. one is fun to drive, the other is actually fast.

I've got a 2001 mr2 spyder. It's fun to drive and fast for what it is. However, it's not a competitor. You can get a Jet chip for it and beef up the exhaust. I'd like to turbo mine but everyone I've talked to says it can't be done. If anyone has any ideas on how to make this thing faster, let me know. Thanks.

Sorry Crayzayjay. I was responding to Toilet Paper's question about the mr2 2/28 (above). Thought this was where I needed to do that.

yea it runs the same as a rsx.. or pretty close.. but then think.. put the same turbo on the two cars.. which one will be faster? the rsx also has a bigger engine.. which will probably result in greater torque after the turbo is installed.. well yea i guess its a nice car.. the only think that really bothers me is the speed.. for a "sports car" maybe if its like the lotus elise.. which is HELLA LIGHT like under a ton.. and it only has like 150 horsepower or something.. it is frigging fast.. maybe if u make the mr2-s like that.. then it'llbe great

I own a 2001 MR2 Spyder. Still stock.

Pros:
--Unique. Unlike Miatas, Z3's and 4's, and S2Ks, you won't see a lot of other Spyder's on the road.
--Quick. Not super fast in a straight line, but fast enough to qualify as a "real" sports car.
--Glued to the road. With the mid-engine design and with the wheels pushed to the far corners of the car, the Spyder has some of the best handling I've ever experienced. You'll absolutely fly through the curves.
--Low price. $10k less than an S2000, $30k les than a Z4. And an MR2 Spyder with $5K worth of mods would spank both these cars on the track.
--Fun, fun, fun. More than any stats on paper suggest, this car is just fun to drive. It's so small and so responsive that you can really feel everything the car is doing.

Cons:
--Limited storage space. The frunk is mostly filled up by the spare tire. I took out the spare and just carry a can of Fix-A-Flat.
--Upgrades can be difficult. Like most mid-engine cars, the engine and its components are jammed tightly together. Adding intake, exhaust, etc. can be a little more time-consuming than on a bigger car.

In summary: If you just want to drive a fast 1/4 mile, get a different car. If you want to win at the autocross, the Spyder is a good choice. If you want a nimble, responsive, real sports car feel, this is the car for you.
