um i find random huge parkinglots like the mall and what not. But wait till the early hours of morning like 1 am or later for obvious reasons. dont go on the roads if ur an amature....keep yourself and other people safe.

Hell no, don't even touch a mountain until you're nearly pro. The best time to start learning is in a wide open space. Maybe even in the rain. I just took my car out drifting for the first time and got the feel of it. Rain is perfect time for it because it's easy and it doesn't kill you're tires right away. As soon as you feel comfortable with your skills try it around a turn.
This is from my experience though. I'm sure others will have theirs.

i think you should practice on the mountain. see how close you can get to the edge.

make sure you don't have guard rails. they are for amatuers.
Drifting on public roads is illegal, stupid, and what happens when you get someone killed. I don't disagree with chuci. As long as you keep it safe, like late at night, it is ok. Mountain, no. Blind turns, CLIFFS, and innocent people just trying to get home or to work. What happens when you kill a soccer mom and three kids on thier way to a little kid soccer game? Did you learn how to drift yo? NO, You just got yourself a prision sentence and a feeling of remorse that will never go away. Just please don't be a dumbass, OK?
Or, who would have thought, go to a sanctioned track where it is LEGAL!
