Progress: Xanavi R34 with VQ30DETT engine

I just got the kit few days ago. I can't wait any longer so started right away. Body sprayed. I'm currently working the wheel arch and bent 2 pipes for now. As you can see, the wheel arch parts are not done yet. I'm still sanding them so I can fit the hood and the tires right. The big "thing" on the engine is the intake manifold with no details yet. All the parts are NOT in correct position in the photo 'cause I'm still aligning the parts. Enjoy.

Few pictures I found on the net, not alot. Most of them are the 2002 version V6, got some 2003 V6. And my friend got the JGTC DVD which has some video shot around the car, so I used the DVD also.

Building the the same for my slot track at the moment and am having a hard time intergrating the slotcar chassis with the kit chassis.... ill post pics asap!!

Got the 4 air ducts done and I'll put CF decal on them.
The steering "rod" from the kit cutted and remade so I can fit it between the engine and the ducts. It's kinda hard to see in the pic because they r all black.

Wow, that VQ engine looks really nice so far! What did you use to build it? I'm planning on building one for my 350Z model, and I was just gonna cut engine the mold off a diecast 350Z model, and work from there.

I think you mean the 350Z engine. Yes, the 2003 R34 race car uses the "same" VQ30DE with twin turbo on it. In this year JGTC, the 350Z race car is using the VQ30DETT engine too.

I'll post some real car pictures.

This is the 2004 engine on the 350Z. It's almost the same as the R34 one.

Yes, there is a oil cooler on top of the intercooler in that photo(the lower left one). That's the engine from the 2002/early 2003 GT-R machine. The pipes runs differently from the late version one because they flipped the intercooler frontside back. You can see the difference from the Calsonic and the lower right photo.

Nicely done so far, may I ask which engine kit that you use to modify into VQ?

If I'm not wrong, that pict below Calsonic is a Pitwork Motul. Because Xanavi had the same layout of Calsonic. Correct me if I'm wrong... (my HyperRev GT-R magazine, GT-R magazine and 10years of JGTC did tell me that is true) ^_^"

The JGTC 2004 GT500 car have low suspension spec and super lightwight & balancing design for they car .

The concerpt is to put the engine closer to the driver Position to resuce unexpected gravity force and gain more stablebility when enter or escape the turning conner.....

Im no Nissan, muchless a JGTC Expert. But, wouldn't it have been easier to just use the Tamiya TT 300zx motor?

Like I said, Im hardly a nissan expert. They're both a v6, so I dont see the difference.

VG30DE and TT versions were used in the 300ZX and many others. The VQ30DE was used in (more popularly known) the Maxima.

The VQ is an all aluminum engine (block and head). The VG has an aluminum head and iron block.....and yes the designs are different as well.

Apart from that, which color did you use for the exhaust? It just look the way it should!
1/24 CF decals always look oversized to me (I prefer 1/43 ones), but I must say the only thing in this cockpit that "hurts" me are the black pedals: photoetch ones would maybe look better...
But honestly, it just misses some wires and the seat (and also the flexible tubes that give fresh air to the pilot), and I'd go and race with it!

The color of the exhaust is ~5:1 Gun metal: Gold Leaf.

Got some tips to make the fresf air tube??

:lol: Don't worry about wires and tubes! With no openable doors, this cockpit will look wonderfull as it is (it already does)!!

For the air tube: plastic tube+thin electrical wire glued around like a spring, and putty-shaped exit... Painted semi gloss black + grey-beige drybrush. That's what I'm planning to do with my Calsonic 2003 GTR, as soon as I'll find one avaible in Paris, France!
