Escape Stalling

Hi,
I have a concern about my Ford Escape. In the 3 years I have owned it, it has stalled twice while I've been driving along level road at about 30-40mph. It's not frequent enough that dealers can "recreate" the problem, so they say there's nothing they can do. The dealer supposedly fixed the problem after the first incident. I've seen lots of similar problems on the net from other owners, but no one says what's actually going wrong.

Is this something that others have encountered? How can I get this problem fixed for good? Thanks for your help.

I work at a ford dealership and we've encountered many of these problems, Ford says it is working on why this problem is occuring but to be honest they have no answers. One time a throttle body fixed the problem, temporarily. Then we put in an egr valve in it because it had worked better after we smacked it with a hammer so we replaced that and are hoping the customer has no further problems. But honestly no one really has the answer for the escape problem, as of yet.

Hi guys,

I'm not saying this is a solution or anything, this thread just reminded me of my 2002 Escape XLT.

I noticed after a year or so, when driving softly with the gas from 0, I could of stalled it if I let it. It seemed that the air pressure dropped and nothing was getting in. I would hit the gas and it would get back to action again. If you notice a dirty air filter, under normal conditions, it's dirty really in one small area of the air filter, the rest of it is not as bad. I think the air box and all that could of been bigger. So being kind of lazy, and my Escape is still under warrenty, I got a K&N. The air flow with one of these things is like a fraction better which is all I figured I needed. It works good with a light foot or a heavy one for that matter.

The recall is a pcm reprogramming. It doesn't take but a half hour and should fix the concern. Surprised hopeless doesn't know this, the recall's about a year old.
