I have a 98 Escort SE Wagon 2.0L SPI SOHC it has been getting about 20 MPG in town, the air filter has been replaced. I was getting about 16 MPG and it increased to 20 MPG when i changed where i was getting my fuel, but i was just wondering if this is pretty typical in town milage or if i should be getting better milage, and if i should i was hopeing for some thoughts on what might improve it. Would appreciate any input thanks in advance Daniel.

20 MPG sounds awfully low to me. Mine is a 1.9 and I have never had less than 35 MPG. On the highway I average 43.
Something seems amiss here... you replaced your filter... does the car have any running problems? Any chance timing is off? Maybe the catylitic converter is plugged up? PCV plugged? Injector stuck open? Hmm...

I am driving my wife's 1995 Ford escort wagon now that my Job just relocated me from a 36 round trip to to 122 miles round trip.
I fill up the escort and nearly use a half a tank. I get better mileage from my Dodge Caravan.
I have replaced the Air filter. What else could be causing the bad mileage. Car only has about 37,500 in miles. I am going to replace the Gas filter and see what happens.

Any other ideas....let me know..

I had to O2 Sensor replaced and I'm still getting 16MPG in town! On a 97 Escort with 87K. I also replaced the fuel filter (getting ready to replace again) PCV, and put in a high performance K&N AirFilter.

Any advice?

Oh yeah. About 1 1/2 years ago when I bought the vehicle I was getting between 30-35 MPG in town! And 40+ on Highway.

I will replace the PCV Valve and check the Gas Filter, How much was that O2 sensor and is that located under the hood?

Est. on sensor $79-100. I usually ask the people at AutoZone they seem to be helpful. Also consult your manual if you have one.
