It really depends on availablilty. Are there lots of used 1.8 Miatas out there? Look at any and all you find. Test drive and make a decision. I have a 90 that I love. Bought her in 1989. Still hangin in. I take real good care of her......continual maintenance, etc. Good luck!

Phantom. I can't answer that as I have a stock and like her that way. They only modification I have done is put in Borla Catback because I like the sound better. That's it. I have not even advanced the timing.
Good luck

well what i am going to do if i get a miata is but a body kit on it, rims and tires, a custom stereo system, lower it a little, a fiberglass cover for when the top is down, change the flip up lights to stationary lights (no flip up lights) and do a dress up kit on the engine and put THO4E turbo charger on it with a front mount intercooler, put sway bars front and rear, change all bushings to urethane bushings for tighter everything, put front and rear strut bars, and do a custom interior with racing seats, 5 point harnesses, paint certain pieces of the interior to make the interior look better and some more things i dont remember

I think you answered it yourself LOL :) Seriously, why buy something that you want to change so much? I truly love the miata just as she is. Simple, yet so much fun. I can understand wanting to "supe" it up, but changing anything about the exterior would make it an "non-miata" in my opinion. If ya got the bucks to spend for all that stuff, why not buy something more racey to begin with?
:) Good luck to ya, Phantom! :)

I understand all your reasons except that a lot of people think its a chick car. Hardly. Miatas are dime a dozen where I live....tons of them and the majority are driven by males. If you are confident in your sexuality anyway, thinking it may look like a chick car is not valid.
I guess I hate the expression "chick car". I am no chick. I am a woman :naughty: LOL

well, pay no attention to those people. They have no life anyway LOL. By the way, I have seen some pretty suped up cars, all dressed up with skirts and everything.....with a female behind the wheel. These days, it goes both ways :iceslolan

why wouldnt you tune out this car. although its great stock it has so much potential to be something better. its still a miata but a miata that can give porsches a run for their money and something that you can have an individual touch too. Miatas that are kicking 250+ hp to the wheels and have suspension done are so nice. Its like the same miata just packin some more power and better handling. Tuning a miata is just making something already great into something magnificent.

I can't tell to whom you are responding, but if it's me, I have reasons I wouldn't want to "tune out this car". First, my purpose of having the Miata is just to enjoy her, top down. She is also my only car and a commute one at that.
I have my individul touches that I can afford. It cost money to modify and since I am not interested in racing or be equal to a Porche, I have chosen just to enjoy my Miata as is with a few exceptions. I changed the exhaust, but the rest is cosmetic.

I'd probably get a BRP supercharger stage 1 to stage 3 depending on your needs. No turbo lag and instant boots, plus really easy to install

I wouldn't get the Jackson racing one though.
on top of that you would need a new clutch, possibly bigger brakes, and an intercooler of somekind and probably a lightened flywheel.
if your looking for performance, the 99 and 00 cars are the lightest and cheapest and you could use the money left over for the upgrades.
I have a 2000 evo orange, and just bought a 2004 sunlight silver as I need the warranty for my long commute.
