alright, i have 77K miles on my car, but i think the tranny is going (its an AT). when i'm going uphill, i feel it jump, or skip, or something! but it doesn't feel good... i also feel this when i accelerate quickly, which i have stopped doing since i've noticed this problem. when i was driving w/ my mechanic for another problem he felt this little jump, and he said my tranny was going. guys, i have 77K...is it normal for my transmission to be going already? could it be something else..something cheaper? :disappoin yeah, i just got this car so i'm really bummed out about this. can i get some opinions?

I wish I knew more about ATs. But its not uncommon for them to wear out. How soon it happens depends on maintenance, driving style, etc, and it could all be previous owner. It shouldnt be a huge deal though. I know my brother rebuidls teh autos all the. Although I have no idea how bad they hose you on the labor costs. Might be cheaper to get a junkyard tranny for a couple hundred and swap it in your garage if you do most of your own work. I dont blame you for being bummed, its an expensive hobby. How poeple deal with these problems though is what seperates the men from the boys. ;) Good luck with it.

thanks alot. you think a rebuild is the way to go though? my mechanic said a new one would be about $2000, including labor, but i suppose he's trying to get as much money as he can... i wish i did my own work! but i don't, so hopefully i'll be able to get this fixed w/o too much of a hassle..

The dealership would just rebuild it. Just change the cluthc packs and a few small parts. The parts are cheap. I dont know what they charge for the labor though.
