Hi guys/gals! This forum stuff is cool heh?? I am so happy I found a nice place to get info about my latest adventure!!
I am wondering what it would take to soup up my 95 2.0L SOHC Neon to enable me to wax ALL the Civic's that are out there!!?? A friend of a friend has invested over 15 grand in his Civic drivetrain and my Neon just can't keep up. Do you think 98mm throttle body and a K&N filter would give me the edge??

Man. Common. You will never be able to wax ALL the civics out there. NEVER not even in your wildest dreams, why? because there are 8, and 9 second street legal civics on the road. Thats way faster than a mclaren F1, and to beat that...mmm almost impossible.
You should ask, how can i beat a civic Si, which is the sport civic. Or something more reasonable, or how can I walk over all stock civics.

agreed, civic knowlege is too deep. I seen a neon on a site with a sticker on the window that says "Import Dreamz" haha...i was die'n. Even the R/T can't be tuned to the same extent. Find a way to drop a srt-4 engine in there and then you can start talking about racing REAL civic tuners. otherwise get a 50 shot of nos and play with the the cheesy civics that misrepresent the car. LOOK FOR THE STICKERS and remember to say "dude i almost had you"

LOL, there's a neon in my town, big azz spoiler, turbo badge, spinner wheel covers, the works right. I walk up to him at the gas station one night and ask if its really turbo'ed... he says, "naw, not yet, but I'm gonna get the kit!"
Fair enough. "How fast is it?" I ask.
This is too good. "Man it's so quick, I already got like 850 hp".
I immediately bit my tongue, almost to the point of bleeding...
"I can beat vipers it's so quick!"
"oh yeah? What have you done to it?"
"just intake and full exhaust. But I smoke 'em all. You wanna run?"
(After examining it's just a can, not full exhaust)"me, nah man, I don't race to lose. Besides I race legal now..."
The story goes on, but I tell you man, I could beat neon r/t's with my Civic EX when it only had intake. I think it has something to do with the drivers to be honest.

Yes, of course adding a new throttle body and K&N filter will make your car be able to beat a civic with over $15,000 invested into it.

A 98mm throttle body? THIS THING HAS TO BE A JOKE. A 5.0L mustang comes with a 65mm throttle body and most mustang owners that quicken their cars put a 70mm throttle body. A 75mm is too big unless your a series tuner for those motors (and its a 5.0L). Their is NO way this guy is series.........unless he's stupid and doesnt know jack SHIT about cars.

But maybe because you guys have V-tec that makes you gods  Anyways this guy is a little dumb though, thinking an intake and throttle body will beat a car with 15grand invested. To be honest, stock-for-stock, with equal drivers, I'd put my bet on a Neon Highline 4-dr with the DOHC motor, against any version of the USDM Civic Si. The 1st-gen Highline 4-dr was even lighter than the Neon ACR, which was capable of 15-flats stock.

I have a friend with a 1st gen Neon ACR, his only mods are some Azenis tires on stock wheels, intake from a Chrysler minivan, and headers and exhaust. He's spent a lot of time at the strip getting the launch down and tweaking the factory adjustable shocks for best launch, and he's removed every non-essential piece of weight he could. He dynoed 150 hp to the wheels, and the damn thing is quicker than my car on nitrous through the 1000ft. It's only a tenth quicker, and it's mostly because I don't launch my car when racing, and I could own his ass from a roll, but it still pisses me off  He has an SRT4 too, his quickest ET is in the ACR though.

8 second street legal civics. come on thats an outrageous statement show me them and then i will believe you.
Show me ANY street driven or leagal 8 second FF car with an inline 4 cylinder engine. Sorry, but they don't exsist. At that power lever not only does traction prove to be a problem, but so does durability. Also, there has yet to be a FWD car to break into the 8s. If you have a link to any then show me, but I call bullshit on who ever said that.
What I have to say is that stock for stock the Neon is a more stout performer than the Civic is. Also, if you do want to talk about 1/4 mile times, there are PLENTY of Neons and SRT-4s in the 9s in the 1/4. If you think that the Neon and SRT-4 can't perform I hate to break it to you but they have a VERy solid aftermarket.
Just because the Civic has one of the biggest aftermarkets does not make it better. However, it is going to take a lot more than a new TB, intake, and exhaust to take down a Civic with $15,000 into it, depending on what that went into. Also, a TB that big will only hurt you.

I don't know exactly, I *think sometime during last years season. As far as I know you can count the number of FWD cars in the 8's on one hand and still have a few fingers left over.

I think that picture should be used as reference though, to show these people who say "there are 8 and 9 second street civics out there" what it takes to pull 8's... No way in hell is that thing even close to street legal and I'm sure there is a hell of a lot more done to that car than any street civic out there... Just because you can drive something on the street, that doesn't make it a "street car". You could pull a top fueler out on the highway if you wanted to, but that doesn't make it a street car...

why is there even a discussion about this? don't we all know that FWD is inherently worse than RWD? And don't we all know that the best you're going to do with a civic is, and this is you go balls-out, a 2.2L engine? A civic can be quick, but is most definately not a drag car.
I'm just confused as to how this discussion even go going.

Put away that mod money and in a couple months take your Neon to a Dodge dealership and trade it in for an SRT-4. You'll also get a loyalty discount from Dodge.
That will do the trick. Most Civics won't have the nerve to rev that fartbox exaust in your direction. The ones that do better have done some serious work to their cars.

Fiber glass shells, 26 point roll cages, 10" wide slicks, exhaust that exits before the front tire... doesn't really point to it being a "street car''.

Jeesh. How many times am I going to have to clear this up?
Okay. I'll just go ahead and quote myself from another thread:
Here's one:
http://www.hcimagazine.com/CoverImages/HCI_0309_COV1.jpg
That car was featured in Hot Compacts and Imports, and that "725 HP" the cover shows is to the wheels. That car is absolutely street-legal in California, which means it is legal to the rest of the country, which isn't as strict as California. Try to find the article if you can.
Here's another one: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=645230
That's an old thread, and the actual shots of the dyno-graph, where the Civic put 712wHP have been taken-down, apparently. At first, it was only running 11's, while fighting traction. I believe they got it all sorted-out finally, and got it to where it's supposed to be, deep in the 10's and 9's.
Lastly, here's some low 10-second Civics in here: http://www.cardoctorperformance.com/racecars.html
Don't forget, where it says "street" in it's class, that means it's a street-legal car. The list also includes Jason Hunt's 9-second CRX, which runs it's passes with a full-interior, and a sound-system.
There's also a lot of underground cars out there that are as fast, if not faster than these cars.
I've heard stories from some F-Body owners themselves about how their 11 or 10-second cars got hustled by some guy with a Civic.
Trust me, I don't talk out of my ass, like some people.

There's also a lot of underground cars out there that are as fast, if not faster than these cars.
I've heard stories from some F-Body owners themselves about how their 11 or 10-second cars got hustled by some guy with a Civic.
Trust me, I don't talk out of my ass, like some people.

I do believe that there may be many uderground cars all over the country that are in the 10's and 9's, There are a few h/'s in my area that are extremely fast..... Ask civichb91si.... He saw a gnx get heftily beat by one... And Ill take pictures of a turboed hatch in my neighborhood.... Missing half the front facsia to accomodate his front mount...He has run very low 11's .. could be in the 10's on slicks....

I know there are some 9 second street legal Civics out there, along with other street legal 4 cylinder cars. The ESX WRX runs like 10 flat on DOT tires. The Rigolis have several 9 second street Subarus. I think that 8 second Subie wagon from Australia is street legal or close to it.

all i can say is 4 bangers :grinno:
however the vr-4 does seem to be pretty sweet! :grinyes:
bbbuutt as for those 9 second hondas, show me the time slips from a 1/4 mile track then i will believe. a fwd with over 700 hp that is impresive yes i'm not doubting that, but issues of traction and controll come into the factor. i have seen 8 and 9 second hondas and their front wheels dont really alow to good of steering. and traction, you could have lets just ues as an example, a 900 hp fwd honda. that would be an awsome car if al those horses where transfered to the ground. basicaly the best traction is g-load mounted traction bar, rear lower control arm relocation brackets (4 inch drop) and adjustiable lower control arms, oh! and dont for get the nitros ;) i'm not sayin the fwd wont do well ive seen a good number of fwd cars preform really well. but thats all i can think of right now my brain dosent function too well after 1 am :icon16:
guess i did have more to say

Howzabout a trade-off?
You show me a time-slip of a 3000GT SL running in the 14's, with video or camera proof of that all the components in the car is stock, and I'll call HCI magazine, and find out that guy on the cover's shop's phone number for ya, so you can call him to ask if you can watch him run at the strip, k?
Better yet, why don't YOU fucking call if you're doubting so much?
Smarter people than you have figured out most of the traction problems inherent with FWD years ago. Suspension set-ups, not to mention DRs and slicks. How do you think the hi-po FWDs are turning in 1.6 60-foots?

LOL.
Sorry about that. It was really, really late, and I wasn't paying attention.
I had you confused with the 3000GT SL fanb01s in the other thread that were really irritating me, despite your username, lol.
Anyhow, yeah, the mag claims that it is a 9-second car, but on slicks, of course.
