Am I now screwed? (no title to CRX)

aight here's the story. I bought my CRX last year in may. My parents never knew about the CRX. (plus, i was only 16 at the time) I told Santos that, and he said i can just rock his plates and use his insurance card if i get pulled over n' what not. So i did that for a year. Now...he just moved like last week to NY. His family still lives in his old house, but he moved in with his GF in NY. I was pissed when one of my friends told me that he moved. He was suppose to sign over the title in June, before i move to NH. Tonight, i went to his old house to ask his family member a question. I think it was his sister i was talking to, but she said that she can just sign the title (forge Santos's name) and i can leave happily ever after. I thought...hmm maybe it will work. Then i remembered...there is no title...i only have the registration paper and his insurance card. I didn't tell his sister that cuz i just remembered this right now. How will i be able to get the CRX under my name/parents name now? gah....this is pissing me off.

call your local dmv. I think that you can register the car still, because if you loose the title you can get a new one. So just call them. Or you could always register it as a salvaged vehice, and then get it re-registered, but thats like a last resort.

do i have to be the owner of the car to get a new title? or can i go to the DMV and say "yea, my cousin lost his title to his car, can i get another one for him?"

file for a lost title with the VIN number. they will send a title to the registered title holder's address, which then they can sign it over to you

yea ... i go to the local AAA office cause they handle DMV stuff and i dont have to wait nearly as long. If your a member they will help you out. Just go in with your membership card and tell them that you need to have the DMV send a pink slip request form to the original owner so you can get it signed over to you. be prepared to wait about a month though either way cause thats about how long the DMV will take to mail it out to you.

if i remembered correctly, santos told me that the guy who owned the CRX before him didn't sign the title over to him yet. So i'm wondering...how could u register a car under your name, without having a title under your name. Either that, or it's really under his name and he lost the title.
