Audio Setup

I am finally buying a full system for my car. First of all Im getting an Alpine CD Player...its pretty much the only blue and silver one (CDA-9827). Im also buying my brothers old setup, which is 2 15" MTX Thunder 8000's in a sealed box, and I think the box may be a little bigger than usually but most likely perfect for those big subs. The amp kit is a Lightning Audio. The amp is what I want feedback on though, or advice, because the 1600 watt Legacy isnt going to do what I want those subs to do eventually. It will make bass, I know that from when my brother had the stuff, but not even to exercise the subs. I want something that would be ideal for those subs, and at least RMS to each sub, or even a little more. Most 1000 watt 2 channels are expensive, and Monos usually run even more. A 2400 watt Rockford seems to me like it would kick some ass, but almost would be overkill. All this will (hopefully) be and fit in the trunk of my 95 Neon...so sound will be an issue in my car too, since everything will probably rattle to pieces.
I already have Pioneer 3 ways in the doors and back, so that seems as if it would be fine cause I can get those very very loud without bass and they dont distort. The CD Player has triple preamps, so I would be able to control the sub bass over my other speakers. Also, one of my friends said this kids Dual deck would be better than my "$200 cd player", and I just walked away laughing at him. People think Alpine isnt shit and I respect it fully, especially after seeing that the Type-Rs hit the highest out of any sub and damn close to the lowest.
But the moral of the story...whats a good amp for these...perhaps even under $400?

Don't get that LA amp, it's just as bad as Legacy if not worse.
how much power do you need (rms, not peak) at what impedence

No no...amp KIT...the wiring. I know Lightning Audio is major shit. I just found this amp though that is a decent deal and is almost ideal wattage http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3079734169&category=18796 Says its 2 channel and 1200 watts...but then says 600x1. Either theyre confused or I am. But the subs are 500 rms I think...this catalog says 400 for the 12"s. For how big these are they will only drop to 23hz and up to 150. The newer models are apparently a max of 1500, when the box for these only say 1200. But that doesnt matter right? I just found its a 4 ohm.

Haha...I understand. I was finding the crap and typing it out of order. Anyway...the subs are 500 watts Rms. Its a single 4 ohm voice coil. The amp kit I have is a Lightning Audio, not an amp as you previously thought. And the rest of the shit I was talking about was the frequency range and that JBL amp on Ebay. Is that clearer...BIG BOY!? Haha

haha, I was just playing around
that was a quote from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back if you didn't know :D
So if the subs can take 500rms, and they're each single 4ohm, then you want a mono amp that puts out ~1000x1 @ 2ohm. None come immediately to mind, but I'm sure there are many

Alright...Awesome. And loismustdie, it said that in the Crutchfield catalog. Them and the Audiobahn FLame Qs were pretty much the best consider the Audiobahns had a 1,100 watt RMS.
Oh yea...what are those subs thats in Vin Diesels car on The Fast and the Furious. They were JL as I remember but probably what model. I guess those are damn good.

That would probably work, just be very careful with the gain. Headroom is always good, as long as you don't abuse it.
And yes I would trust RF amps, I wouldn't go out and buy one myself, but if one was given to me I wouldn't hesitate to run it ;)

Will that amp and those subs be competition quality? I have no idea at all what it will sound like because all the systems around here that I have heard arent very big and I think thats quite loud. The loudest Ive heard was in a Sundance with 2 old Kickers and a 1000 2 channel Kenwood amp. It was probably that or less cause the amp was big. Everyone here has cheap Pioneer decks so their inside speakers suck ass and distort. So this should blow me away pretty good right, considering that you told me to be careful with the power.

competition?
I assume you mean in SPL, since you aren't going to be any match for a sound quality competition with just 2 15" subs. You might be able to hold your own in SPL if it was a small local event....but I wouldn't expect much.

I still can guarantee its gonna be more than anyone here has ever heard. Im probably gonna put neon and some seamless enclosure type shit in with the subs if there is space...which is very unlikely. That would be pretty sweet.
