we vr4 owners don't have a very big option of rims, cause of our big huge calipers that stick out 90% of the rims on the market don't fit

What are some rims for the n/a's out there, i hate it how we are never paid attention to. We are still here.

Lol too true. It's always VR4 this and VR4 that ;) You could go to http://www.tirerack.com and look at how some of the rims would look on the cars. It's pretty neat....

Anyone have a 6 spoke chrome 18inch vr4 rim, i dented one on my 96 vr4. Or know where I could find one, other then 3si.org(I'll check there). I've been considering getting new rims and replacing all the chrome, it looks good but is SO heavy. So I am debating between the two options...what do you think?

Nesryn
02-27-2004, 03:28 PM
Lol I have the same prob as you. I dented one of my stock rims too. I can't decide whether I wanna get rid of my chrome rims either. I guess it just depends which one is more important to you... Performance or aesthetics. Will the rims make much of a difference in weight?

Teazrsnow
02-27-2004, 06:34 PM
definietley make a difference

Nesryn
02-27-2004, 06:54 PM
So chrome rims are a bad thing to have?

Teazrsnow
02-27-2004, 07:25 PM
chrome rims are very very heavy and therefore have a negative effect on performance. spinning mass is double the regular mass

Nesryn
02-27-2004, 07:29 PM
Hey yeah thats right... Never really thought of it in that way. I don't know what other finish would look good though. My car is pearl white....

Teazrsnow

Damn.. expensive stuff. I think I'd rather put the money into my motor...

Teazrsnow
02-29-2004, 11:57 AM
umm 6200 for something that does not go on a 3000
spend that same money on some sportier rims but if you want the g-ride look don't pay that much

ummm now im confused.3000gt is the same as GTO. so $6200 for 20" spinning show stoppers is expensive then.sweet as i'll try talking them down.ta

I think he means that those rims just don't fit with the 3000. They're sports cars, it doesn't really fit to pimp them out...

Teazrsnow
03-03-2004, 01:38 PM
exactly what im sayin the 20's will weigh you down incredibly and the 20 will have clearance issues for sure

Nesryn
03-03-2004, 04:55 PM
Yeah but I don't think that people who want to buy rims like that really care about the speed aspect of cars... But I could imagine they would be scraping the wheel well's all the time... =\

Anyone ever hear of their township or city paying for flattires/rim damage if caused by potholes?

Nesryn
03-04-2004, 08:00 PM
I don't think so. But I dunno.. Would you be able to prove that the flattire was caused by the pothole? Or they would be f**ckers and tell you that you should have avoided them...

I dunno, I've only heard rumors thus far...

Yeah but I'm not too sure. I can't say I've ever heard of something like that happening but I'm not from the States so.. it might be different down there *shrugz*

On a Pearl white 3kgt I would put some 18in Volk SE37s in gunmetal or silver both look good, or some 18in 3pc O.Z. Superleggeras. Actually I would put them on any car if I could afford them. THose rims look amazing on anything.

Ok, I finally found someone who it happened to, and they had stopped making the rims that he had on his car, so the township actually bought him 4 new rims and 1 tire. He called them immediately after it happened...

what about light weight rims like te37's?

i would say looks wise, i think the racing heart C5 is the best looking rim for our cars (in 19's). but yea, i will be putting my $$$ elsewhere until i have so much of it that i do not know what to do with it.

in N.Z if you damage a rim/rims as long as you ring up quite promptly, they will ususally pay out.

the reason for the bigger rims is for the bigger guards :naughty: :sunglasse .......... and because i'd hate to lose a show to a NISSAN

my 18" leave at LEAST an inch, 19's are already cruisn round so 20's wud b the next best option and as spinners have only been for sale ( in tyre shops)for the last 5 months they wud b " in " for a few more at the minimum.

the 16's are still for track days

i think you should put it in your motor, once you have a NICE amount of power, THEN add the rims... rims are heavy, and our cars do not need more weight ;)

Nesryn
03-19-2004, 12:27 AM
Yeah but the stock chromes that came on mine are pretty heavy too. I can pretty much guarantee that I'd put all my money into my motor first to get more performance out of it. But lighter rims also give better performance :)

Igovert500
03-19-2004, 08:30 PM
Yeah lighter rims definantly free up more hp, because its less rotational mass. And you can save about 80lbs if you get 4 lighter rims rather then stock chrome.

What are some good light rims?

The VR4 can fit 10inch wide tires? How much lee way do you have with those 10 inch wide tires?

Igovert500
03-20-2004, 08:57 PM
I think the tires I have on it are 9.5 inch width inner sidewall to outer sidewall. They are are 18in stock rims. But I don't know what you mean by leway? They fit fine, I have no clearance issues and they don't extend out of the wheel wells.

As for lighter rims, I took this from 3si.org under their mod guide:

"The stock 91-93 17" wheel and tire combination weighs 52 pounds. By going with a lighter wheel, you will reduce the critical upsprung weight. This aids in all facets of the car from acceleration to braking to handling. Some wheels like the BBS, Blitz, and SSR wheels weigh less than 20 lbs. each, allowing a potential savings of 15 or more lbs. for each wheel and tire. Stay away from chrome!"

I assume that the 18" 6 spoke chrome rims from the 2nd gens probably weigh more.

Yeah I got to get rid of my chrome *sigh* And they look so damn good on pearl white too...

3si.org has tons of posts about lighter rims in their wheels section. Apparently there are rims from japan that are as light as 14lbs. 5zigen, BBS, Volk, and Blitz all have light rims that fit the vr4s. I assume theyd fit the SLs as well. Usually the problem is with our caliper clearance, but if they work on the vr4 they should work on the SLs (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
