ok this has absolutly nothin to do with cars but im hoping someone out there can help me. this past week i started getting large amounts of pop-ups, they dont stop, as soon as i close it another pops up, and they are all about pop-up blockers and cell phones. I actually tried a pop-up blocker but it did nothin and might have even made them worse b/c now i get some about other internet providers and even online deplomas. so if anyone can help me fix this PLZ do so.
oya i tryed deleting my cookies and history and the files through internet options but it did nothin.
so if there is a free or relitivly cheap program out there to get rid of these damn things plz point me in the right direction.
Thx :banghead:

Download spybot search and destroy and ad-aware. It will locate any spy ware. Also try google toolbar if your using Internet Explorer. Or d/l Mozilla.

Are they the usual popups that are in Internet Explorer, or do they say "Messenger Service" or something and have an OK button at the bottom?

Try Avant Browser. It has built in pop-up blocker. Works wonders for me. There are other browsers that have this feature but this one works fine for me. It also has a feature where you can delete history, cookies, downloaded temp files, etc when you exit the browser.

Stop lookin' at PORN!
Really that and Kazaa are basically the 2 biggest causes for pop-ups.

Without a doubt they are.

I had so many pop-ups before because my cousins use Kazza a lot.

Use Kazaa Lite, not Kazaa

I use zone alarm pro which seems to have a very agressive pop up blocker depending on what you set it on.

30day free trial.

If it looks like the ones I'm talking about in the 10th post in this thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=82327), then you need MessageSubtract, to which there is a link in that post

i'll back up his advice too. But you might want to try the more streamlined version of mozilla: mozilla firefox

thanks heep!

Where can I get Kazaa Lite? I've been to Kazaalite.com, but looks like I gotta pay to download it... Is that the only way? I thought it was freeware.

Try mIRC or...pay for it lol.

And dang there isn't one free site out there anymore with it on there.

will these new browsers stop all the pop-ups? even the ones that happen when im not even surfing the net?

Neutrino

well the ones that happen when you are not surfing the net are caused by spyware so no the browsers won't stop those.

You need to use ad-aware and spybot to get rid of your spyware

the browsers like mozilla will get rid of your regular internet popups

The ones you're seeing when not surfing the net are from a built in messenger service in Windows that was intended for Microsoft support guys to use to help you with Windows problems, but has basically been taken over by spammers. It's not actually spyware, so Ad-aware won't do anything about it. You need MessageSubtract: http://www.intermute.com/bin/ms/msg.exe

Oh, and Ci5ic, I think every site that hosts KLite wants you to pay for it now...I'd send it to you if I had it, but all I can suggest is looking for it on regular Kazaa :lol2:

Also, something to be aware of is that if you are using regular Kazaa and you use Ad-aware or a similar program, Kazaa won't work anymore.

So um... KazaaLite is a program right?

I went to KazaaLite.com to try and get it, and it said I had to pay, so I did, but KazaaLite is not one of the programs I can download... I can download BearShare, WinMX, Blubster, Grokster, eDonkey, etc. but no KazaaLite... ?!?!?!

Yeah it is a program like Kazaa with no adds, too bad I don't have the install file I could find someone to host it or something or even send it to you.

I use the Google toolbar with pop-up blocker and it works incredibly well. :)

In fact it blocks so well that if I get a private message I have to hold the control key down while clicking “yes” to open message in a new window.

I prefer Alexa as my pop-up blocker. Whenever there's a pop-up from a site I've never been to before, it gives me the choice to allow it or block it, and I can tell it whether or not it should remember that decision. For example, I have all AF pop-ups allowed, but all geocities pop-ups blocked.

Hey spec... while you're on AF, click on the button that says "XXX blocked" and it will change to "Site Popups Allowed". That way, you won't have to monkey with the ctrl key when you're on this site.

Google Toolbar is the best I've found. I downloaded it about 3 months ago and I haven't gotten a single popup since. Totally free, at google.com, but of course you know that site.
currently: 1258 blocked

Another reason I prefer Alexa is that it provides "Relevant Links" to the site you're on, so if you're looking up some obscure car and had trouble finding the one site about it, Alexa will list like 4 other sites about those cars that people have already found...
