i know a kid trying to sell his 92 MR2 for $13,000. It has 700 miles on the rebuilt j-spec turbo engine. It also has a stage 5 t4 turbo with potential (according to him) of 800 horse. There's also a ton of other mods like full kit, new paint, exhaust, pistons, rods, system, catskin leather interior, gauges, headlight conversion, rims and suspension. I only have experience with civics and nonturbo at that. What kind of questions should I be asking or what should I look for? I hope you MR2 guys can help.

1. Ask for a dynosheet. (Make sure its as fast as he says)
2. Ask for pictures (Make sure you like the styling)
3. Get a compression test (make sure it will last)
4. Ask when the is the last time he's gotten scheduled maintenance, timing belt, etc...
5. Ask for the VIN and run a carfax check.
800 Horses is alot for an MR2, I've heard of alot of tuners with 300+ RWHP running great times, 800RWHP would be a MR2 record, thats more than the Castrol Racing supra w/ the 3S-GTE in it...

Either way, for 13 grand, you could get a great condition low milage MR2 Turbo, and modify it the way you'd want to. Heck I got my car for $4500 (93 w/ 150k miles) and with the $8500 this car would be so fast I couldnt drive it...

4500 for a turbo? man you're lucky. I'm trying to find a turbo for under 6 grand, around illinois, and it is damn hard.

On that note, Still Way and Garage Fukui SPL in Japan collaborated to build an 800hp+ MR2 that ran 10s in street trim...
As for the rest of your post, I fully agree. You DEFINATELY want service history with a car like that.

I would never buy a modified used car.
I bought Hyde for $1750 and he was bone stock.
... I think the money I put into Hyde has been well spent. :)

around Atlanta i've seen 92 turbos w/ 90k around $5k, Seeing the car in person is the final dertmination. being able to spend 2 or 3 times the price of the vehicle on the parts would produce something quick, but if you see a good deal thats worth that $!
