Air cleaner inlet hose grill attach point

Seems to be a stamped out, but not removed, "blanking" plate where the inlet end of my air cleaner hose needs to be attached. Either that or I forgot where it really lives! It appears that knocking out the sheet metal blanking plate would provide unrestricted ram air to access the inlet hose-except some rain might also get in with it. Suggestions welcomed. John
