I am going to buy a RWD car for amateur rally/ice racing and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.
The car wont cost a lot, it will be around 2-3000$, because I just want to have a chance to test and compare in detail an RWD machine to a FWD.

ok
just one question, ive once hear that RX-7 is not alound to compete because its rotary engine makes it illegal, does that makes any sense? (please say no!)

and a physician also told me that the engine is likely to deteriorate faster because of the friction of the rotor. Anyone have number to prove/refute that?

Cheap 80's bimmer? the 3 series seems like the perfect size to me. If you want a really cheap rwd car for rallying get a 318i(I found one for 500$ bucks in the newspaper). If you want a six, get either an old 323i with a baby-six, or a 328i. Aftermarket suspension components are ridiculously easy to find, at least where I live.

Why do you want a RWD rally car? Just curious...
FWD or AWD cars are better suited for rally... your 323 is an excellent platform!
HEY! This is an old thread! Quit bringing back old threads, noob!

well I would like to get a RWD to fit in a 2wd novice class in ice racing (there is no AWD novice class)
Plus, even if I have a limited experience with RWD, I find them more fun to drive than AWD
And even if FWD seems a little better for ice/rally racing, I find it so boring to be affected with excessive understeer. Its much more fun to get sideway! After all, if it was only about going fast, I would get a snowmobile or a go-kart…

You can very much go sideways with a FWD car on an ice track (experience talking), and I don't know what will become tiring sooner - fighting udersteer or oversteer. But it's your choice, and whatever you do, I hope you have fun.
