I just recently bought amn 89 k1500. 350 TBI. It was running pretty bad. I noticed after I bought it that the distibutor was loose so I just moved it a bit and it ran better. I want to time it with a light. I have an inductive light. On this HEI I beleive I have to unplug a lead coming from main harness behind distibutor to be in BYPASS mode before I can adjust. ANYONE know which wire I unplug? Sticker on fan shroud says its a tan wire with black stripe. Cant find it though. I want to be sure my timing is on so I can move on to other issues that might be robbing my performance. Any help would be great. Thanks

open the hood, goto passenger side, on the firewall, near the blower motor is a plastic cover held on by 2 plastic nuts, remove those, the tan wire with black stripe is in there.
key off, engine off, unplug this, start, time, shut off, then replug it in, then restart. do not plug or unplug this with the ign on or engine running.
you will also HAVE to use a scan tool to reset the code 42/43

That much to me is pretty common sense. Its finding the wire that is a challenge. :banghead: I was looking at night but I will look today.
I read in another post that a guy had trouble locating it on his 88 Chevy and he ended up finding it without a disconnect and had to cut it and install his own plug.

I looked today and as I figured I could have kept the cover on. The wire comes out of the harness cover (conduit) and exposes a plug or quick connect and goes right back in the conduit. The reason I couldnt see it is because the harness was turned and the plug was underneath. Got it timed and runs awsome. Didnt get any codes either. :iceslolan
