Shifter plate?

my 97 camaro was wrecked, and rebuilt. it is a 5 speed. in the space where the shifter is, it looks as if there is a plate that's supposed to be there, maybe to guide the shifter, i dunno. i will try to post a link to a picture of what i'm talking about tomorrow night.

that's the area, but the shift boot is there. it looks like there is supposed to be a piece that goes there. like i sed, i'll try to post a pic tomorrow
