Alternator connections

I have a 1995 N Reg Escort (UK). This is the year they changed the shape of the car (I have the new shape). I got a new alternator. When I came to fit it, I took the old one off but the connections were different. The red wire connected to the same bolt on both alternators but a push on blue wire would not connect to the new one which required a spade fitting. The alternator looks identical apart from the fitting for the blue wire.

Can anyone help?
