how does a radar work?

hey every body?it's me again, now i have a different question, as u can tell i like street races, i have ben in 3 races, wich i lost, but that's not the point, i write, to ask all of you, how a radr works? cause i wanna get one but i don't how it works, what i mean by that is, does it make you invisible to police radar or something?

There are many many many discussions on radar detectors.

In short, a speed gun broadcasts a radio signal, it bounces off your car, and using math.. it figures out how fast you're going by when it's picked up again

A radar detector just picks up the signal if it's being broadcast by a radar gun (police traps) and alerts you.

I have PNI traveller, the best well... i would have to go with Valentine One. It really depeans on where you are going to be driving the most, highway or the city. Most state police on the highway use Laser. Here most police use K and Ka bands, but we do have the Northville Township police that use a radar and laser guns so sometimes my pni (which sucks with laser bands) does not pick it up. You should try to find out what you local police use (what bands) and then pick your radar dectector from there. Mine is all I needed for my needs, so I did not need to go with a 300+ radar dectector. The pni was a 130 shipped. I think you can get it for close to 115 on ebay right now. But get what you need, for your needs. :biggrin:

yea, lots of radar's dont detect laser. Unless your whilling to spend 400 or more, dont buy em....

im in mn and i use a cobra i picked up at bestbuy for about 150. it detects K, Ka, X, Laser, and VG2....but what the shit is VG2???? The detector works great for me and has helped me in various situations....but i would like to know what VG2 is, my detector goes insane when it ddetects it and i never know what it is.

You dont need VG2 or specta unless you live in Virginia or D.C. (i think that is all of that)

I have a friend that works at best buy and his opinion it that cobra sucks this year.

I kive in VA, owning a 3kgt, i think that i need one. I guess i need the VG2 anti-detection thing. Will this really keep me clear of getting busted for using it? Is cobra the best for blocking there radar detector detectors? I dont feel like getting tickets help plz...

in order to increase range of detection radar detectors emit a signal that is sensitive to the corresponding band of police radar. if the system was 100% passive, nothing on earth [other than mk1 mod0 eyeballs] could detect it. hence the need for VG2. otherwise you would be getting pulled over for an illegal [in your state] radar detector ticket instead of a speeding ticket. but if you are going fast enough, he could always say he clocked you...

joe...just fyi, the cobra i have goes seriously insane when it detects vg2...beeps really fast and really loud until it no longer detects the signal, by far the most annoying sound ive heard come out of it.
