I knew I was a car nut when . . .

I was in Junior High School, and any car magazine I found I'd read them cover to cover . . . I'd find all of the car ads that had toll free numbers to call for information . . . I'd call them and ask them to send me all of their product info . . .

I got tons of cool stuff . . . my favorite was a video tape of the new (at that time anyway) Mitsu 3000 GT . . . . anyhow . . . Some of them put their local dealers in touch with me. It was funny, cause at like 6 in the evening my mom would answer the phone and be like: "There's someone on the phone for you from JAGUAR ??!?!!!"

If my mom can find all that old stuff for me (it's in her damned house somewhere), Id' be a happy and almost complete man . . .

When did you know you were a car nut?

all i seemed to enjoy at one period of time were the sounds of engines..i couldnt get over it....i would always be like "mom, listen to this". then i started to read more and more and found out theres plenty to enjoy about these ever so gentle monsters.

The day Dukes Of Hazzard aired when I was a kid. That is when I knew I wanted to get into cars.

I knew it when my father took me out in a 71 Vette. The sound of the engine and the feel of acceleration is something that I have been hooked on ever since.

When i was about 8-9 years old my father took me to the dragracing one day. I was blowen away by the sound/smell and power of these monsters.

We lived next to a river that ran though our town, and he would take me to see the power boats racing as well.

Also to the stockcar track ever weekend in town. This would have been the main factor in turning me into a car nut. We would travel the country watching them. Stockcar racing is a lot different in this country to the USA. Here they smash/bash and roll into each other on dirt tracks and are driven by crazy bastards with no brains. Anything goes when they race. (See pic below as to what they look like)

From there i learnt everything i could about V8's. I never really cared what they where in, i just loved the sound and power.

When i was about 11 by brother-in-law brought a car with a V8 and i was hooked forever. We built up a couple of cars together and got into the dragracing side of things. It all kind of followed on from there.

Actually i_rebel, I'm sure that there are quite a few people on the boards who are here all the time, but wouldn't classify themselves as car nuts. For example, I'm here quite a bit, but when it comes to cars, I really don't know a whole lot.

I was kinda a tomboy growing up and I was always tagging along (or antagonizing) my older brother. He was always working on cars so I handed him tools (or hid them) depending on what kind of mood he put me in. When I was 5 someone asked me what kind of car I wanted when I could drive...since I didn't know makes or models I just said "a turbo!"

I realized I was a car nut when I was 10. Started working for my dad, buying car mags, and finding any car site I could. They became my obsession. :)
When I was about 6 or 7, my dad asked me what kind of car I wanted when I could drive, and I said a 1967 Chevy Camaro, but any Camaro would do just fine.

Ahhhh.......the first time I saw a Porsche...that definately begun my obsession....... my father would take me to the auto parts store and i'd help with minor tasks with his old Toyota Land Cruiser, When we finally started attending the Vintage Races i was really hooked.....
I decided(as I am apt to do) that Girls can do anything that boys can do...and sometimes better;) so I vowed that I would be a race car driver, and I'm still working to that goal....my classic ralley Lancia Flavia should be ready in a year or so:D but for the time being I autoX my SE-R and make fun of riceboys that try to outdrive the little girl

lol... I did the same thing. me and my best friend went to the local bookstore and bought some DuPont magazines... (this was like, two years ago).. we called every (there were tons) toll-free number to exotic car dealerships we could find... I got a ton of stuff in the mail. One person hung up and told me to stop calling them. I had no idea what they were talking about as I called them once. Musta been some other kid wanting his stuff too.

Anyway, it was great fun. Some guys were nice, promising to send in stuff but I never got it, and others were not so nice and just sent it, even though I had a little kid voice then.

I guess I was a nut before that, but that is when it really started.

I guess I was born a car nut, because all the drawings I made when I was 3 & 4 that my mom has are of cars and trucks. I am 27 now, and still love cars.

.... yeah .. ;)

after a few tries I figured out exactly what to say and that you have to ask for a salesperson :D

"This is Hartmann Lamborghini Automotive of Las Angeles, how may I help you?"
"Could I speak to a sales person please?"
"Hold on"
..............................
"Hello, this is Jack Hartford with Hartmann Lamborghini Automotive, how could I help?"
"Hi, I was wondering if you guys had any free brochures?"
"Yes, but they cost $5.00" / "Sure we do. Name and address please?"
"Adam A....., ....... WA, ......... bla blah"
"Thank you, expect the packet to arrive within a couple of weeks."
"Thanks, bye!"

the end... I know the "free" part was stupid and I sounded young, but I didn't care, I wanted to look at some exotic car pictures!!! You should try it, it still would be fun
