I currently use the FM modulator to run my iPOD through my 2004 Xterras stereo. DOes anyone know if there is an input jack anywhere on the stock stereo? Even if its in the back and needs to be taken out? The FM thing sucks, and I think itd sound much better if it was wired. Thanks!

To my knowledge there is no way to hard wire a Ipod to a stock xterra radio . I have an aftermarket Alpine radio with RCA cable inputs. I went from a 1/8 inch minijack to rca connector to hardwire mine I also used the 12volt ipod holder in the stock location of my 02 x. If you have an SE with the fosgate radio you can buy a rca input adaptor from www.crutchfield.com to hardwire.

I dont have an SE, but I was doing some research and found that Alpine is going to release a new head unit that is dedicated to the iPOD. It is supposed to have a song display and use of all the features (scrolling, playlists, etc) right from the head unit. So basically you just connect the iPOD and use it as a hard drive. I think Im going to wait for that, as it definitely sounds worth it.

I have a 2002 Xterra SE, and I am having the same problem. I want to hard wire my 10GB iPod, but do not know anything about after market head units for my car. Any kind of advice would help. Thanks!

Perhaps you can steal ideas from this install in a WRX?

That didn't really help at all. I need some solutions about head units or if there is even a way to do it without buying a new head unit. I would like to remain as much stock as possible. Thanks.

You just need a decent head unit w/ a set of Accessory RCA outputs.
Plug a RCA to mini plug cable in to the RCA jacks and route it through the dash somewhere (12v hole, under the panel by the floor, etc...) and you can plug your iPod in this way.
I'm doing it for a different MP3 player and I just slide the player in the pocket I installed w/ my 1 DIN sized radio.
Belkin makes an iPod holder that fits in any standard drink holder that you could use to keep the ipod steady.
the head unit in the X is EXTREMELY easy to replace, save the money the radio stores wants to charge you to install! Two screws pulls the trim cover off, 4 screws pull the radio out. You use the same brackets to install the new radio. You'll just need a Nissan radio adapter kit and a universal DIN sized pocket to fill the whole below the single DIN sized radio.

Hi All,
I am wondering if you can use an adapter from the CD Changer input of the stereo to an RCA jack.. Then use the Miniphone to RCA adapter on the iPod.. I wonder if that would work and if someone makes that cord. Aren't the stereos made by Pioneer (2000-01)
I think that is what Alpine does for their Aux input. You have to choose betweeen the CD Changer or the RCA adapter for the ipod. but if you are using the ipod I don't think you would need you CD changer ever again..
Has anoyone tried this?

I am also wanting to connect a Dell DJ to my 2002 Xterra SE. I am confused on whether or not I have a Rockford-Fosgate system. Is that standard with a 2002 or an option? Someone mentioned in here that you can buy an RCA input adapter if you do.

Do you know which adapter from Crutchfield will work? I believe I've read that the Rockford Fosgate radio has a 8 pin Din on the back but there are a couple of different 8 pin din - RCA cables on the Crutchfield site. It looks the Blaupunkt adapter is an 8 pin. Is this the correct one?
Thanks for any help with this... I'd love to connect my iPod this way... the iTrip is an ok solution... just not great...

I have my iPod hardwired in using one of the kits from www.mp3yourcar.com . It came with a little black box that plugged into the back of my car stereo as well as into my ipod. Now the audio from my ipod goes directly in with no FM, I can control my iPod, and it charges the iPod. Overall I am very happy with it and believe it is the best option.

you could get an dension icelink.
http://www.densionusa.com/x/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=407&Itemid=109
These are really very cool. They come with a mount and a special cable for direct control via the steering wheel controls/standard cd controls. AS I understand it you lose the use of the cd changer though.
now I just need an ipod, and an ice-link, ok 2 ice-links, one for my xterra, one for my maxima, yeah I'm a 2 nissan family

I don't think this will work for a Nissan. They don't have one for a Nissan and I couldn't find anything about Nissan on their site.:uhoh:

oh my bad
the link I posted was for the ice-link +
the icelink 1.1 supported the nissan, I confirmed it with the makers, but the link is broken now...

if you are still interested you should email them or call them, they definitely had it at one point.

I have the same type of question-
I hate the RF modulator and have a few choices- I have the 2000 stock stereo with no cassette player- is it worth finding one on ebay with a casette player to use the cassette input? What other Nissan models fit the Xterra? Pathfinder/frontier, altima?
Or is it worth it to just find a deck from a retailer with RCA or other inputs?
Thanks!

check out this web page for a possible solution. I'm in the same boat as you, looking for a solution, and I found this. I haven't bought it yet, though, so I can't tell you how it is.

Found another one. It's more expensive, but Best Buy has it if that makes you more comfortable.

I replyed Earlier to this question. All 8 pin plugs are not created equally or the same. the pin configuration may have the power and ground posts in different arrangement. This would cause a direct short. AKA big problem. I played around with the above connectors on my bench testing set-up at home I could not find one that had the power wire in the correct location . I used an Ohm meter and an electronic scope to be sure. It's a no go . It's what I do for a living so I feel that I am knowledgeable about this. Good luck .

for my last 2001 xterra, single disc CD and tape combo head unit, I was able to pick up a USASpec AUX input adapter. If your head unit has a CD changer port on the back (looks almost identical to the normal harness plug) then you can get an AUX in adapter (emulates an external CD changer and pushes aux audio to the head unit)
for those of you with an 02-04 SE Rockford Fosgate stock setup, modding is necessary to get your ipod or aux input. Nissan didn't start adding an actual AUX input in the fosgate units until the 07 xterra, and took until 05 to add a SAT port (aux in adapters available for SAT emulation.)

for those of you with 02-04 xterra se rockford fosgate systems, there is a technical mod for your head unit to accept a true AUX input. I'll be posting instructions later on this week, hopefully.
