i am new to car mods so excuse me if the question sounds studpid. but i really need your help.

i wanna get a new spoiler for my 99gst. so far i've decided to get the JSP's carbon fiber spoiler 56" 10" http://www.jspamerica.com/spoilers_import_profile.cfm?productID=&productTypeID=1&model=&productLineID=51&makeID=&fromModelYear=&toModelYear=&productID=CFGT1056
after seeing it in the game underground i just can't resist that i wanna get myself one of those. i am not sure if this JSP is exactly the one called "supernova" in underground. but it's the closes i was able to find.

my main concern is.. should i get the 10" height one or the 5" height one and 56" wide or 59" wide. here's a link to the pic i sht from the game underground. i don't know if that's 5" or 10" and 56" or 59" http://www.digitalinvent.com/files/jsp.jpg

here is also a pic of my actual eclipse
http://www.digitalinvent.com/files/eclipse3.jpg

please help me decide what i should get because i've never bought spoilers before and i would hate to get the one that's too tall or too short. :(

i say measure the rear of your car and then measure height so you have an idea on how it's going to sit on your car

:screwy: 1 luv = my rice burner :twak: ponnies are for little girls :dupe: bowties are for sunday school boys and well diamonds are forever :bananadie

most definitly think about the fact that you're buying a 10 inch high wing.... theres some idiot driving around campus with a stock gs with an aluminum wing that my girlfriend could sit on comfortably. It's hideous, and is about 10 sizes too big for teh car it is on..

other then that, a 56 inch will give a more "tight with the car" look from the front, or back, and a 59 will give a wider look -- that is a 59 will seem to "hang over" just a tad over the sides. both appeal to different people, so take your pick

also just a few things to think about before buying this..
- thats a lot of cash that could go under your hood thats going to something that adds no real value
- be prepared ot have a lot more police interest in your car. i have loads of power mods, but iwth a stock body i have never been pulled over to date. my friend has a riced out civic with a stock engine and has been detained 2 times for what they said was "intent to race" because someone blew off an exhaust on a main strip.

that being said, i still believe its your car and your expression so by all means do as YOU please. personally id take a nice set of injectors or a fuel upgrade for the $$ ur spending on it

i still believe its your car and your expression so by all means do as YOU please. Yup! :)

"my opinion" 'bout this spoiler is that....its not my style, and i dont like it :nono:

but like kier said its YOUR car not mine or the rest of us! ;)

oh and another thing i want to say is that i dont think you will be gettin' alot of positive feedback 'bout this wing cus if you look at the thread that shows all the DSM owners cars, most of those guys are all 'bout performance and dont like to play with big spoilers and neons :2cents:

thanks for all the feedback so far guys :) appreciated. i know what you mean Chavez. it's just that i REALLY REALLY want this spoiler :banghead: and i too don't like the typical LARGE GT1 couch style wing. that's why i chose thise one.... cause it's little smaller, shorter and curvier at the sides. i already have some sorts of engine mod to my car. so far i have the cold-air intake /w filter(HKS) and downpipe mod with Greddy's blow off valve. and then the dual exaust, i think they're universal whatever rounded exaust :screwy: stock was 210hp and now is about 230hp

i am a digital graphic designer, (look at my website :)) so look is very important to me. i recently ,as you can see, added the StradaF1 bodykit with Blitz back bumper. and i love them

but seriously guys... thank you very much for your suggestions... they're deeply appreciated.

i do'nt think this new spoiler will reach the extend of "out of the line" so i think about the cops it'll be ok. i've only been pulled over so far once and didn't even get a ticket or anything (knock on wood) and it was about my front license plate wasn't screwed onto the bumper.

hey Chavez!, is that your gf?.. she's pretty hot! :naughty: :iceslolan

and KieR!.. thanks .. those are very important facts that i didn't know. i'l go measure my car tomorrow

I like how your car looks now - looks much cleaner and meaner than it would with a big ass body-curve breaking wing. I like the supra style spoilers that come on eclipses too... I like curves too much to put something like that on it.

chavez is very right about not getting as many positive feedbacks here as you might in another type of car's forum. i, and a lot of the other DSMers i know (a few a**holes excluded), are not too keen on the gigantic bling bling that so many people attempt with their cars.

so yea, not my cup of tea.

again, as a disclaimer, do as YOu want, not as you wish others to like. i mean its gonna be sitting in your driveway, not mine.

but either way, you're welcome on the information and let me know if oyu need anything else

actually i've been thinking about replacing my stock brake with something better. just don't know what exactly i should get. i am not exactly looking for the top notch brake kits but something that's more powerful than the stock one. because the stock right now is just too weak. almost got into an accident before. . any suggestions?. should i replace the disc only or get a whole new kit. if so, what brand and model is good and not too expensive. :eek7:

and HA HA.. laugh at me guys.. :lol2: :icon16: now is the time. :grinno: what's 4G63 and how is it different from say 20G. i know that's my engine. but what is "G" are the difference in number mean difference in power? :screwy:

RiceRocket18

anyone?

EclipseRST
02-25-2004, 03:56 PM
lol, ok i laughed a little... but the 4g63 is the motor in all the turbo and not turbo model 1st gen eclipses and the motor is also in all the turbo models of the 2nd gen eclipses except the spyder, then that motor is the 4g64... ok for the 20g, that is a turbo! a nice one might i add :iceslolan , your engine is the 420a! that is in all of the 2nd gen non turbo cars except the spyder GS, then that motor is the 4g64... hope that helped!

RiceRocket18
02-25-2004, 04:01 PM
so the "G" is generation? so is my turbo 4th generation 63? as 4g63? so is the naming of the G differ from every manufacture or there's only one standard. so i assume 20g (20th generation is the latest one and the best?) also what is the 63?

EclipseRST

WHAT? 4th generation? there is no 4th generation yet! well its a concept car but it doesnt have that motor in it... the only cars that have that motor are the 1st generation turbo and non turbo models, and the 2nd generation turbo models! 20g = 20th generation??? where are you getting this from?? not tring to put this in a bad way, all i wanna know is what your talking about so i can understand!

i have no idea!! i am totally lost :banghead: guess i am back to square one. :sly: i just don't understand why some car's turbo are called 4G and some are 2g and some are 20G. what exactly is this "G" i guess you just confused me back there with the word generation :cwm27:

KieR

ok heres a quick idea of it

1g = first generation eclipse
2g = second generation eclipse
^^ nothing to do with engine, just a way to group them by years

4g63 = the engine code for all 1g and turbo 2g eclipses
420a = the nonturbo 2g eclipse engine code
^^ again, engine codes, not turbo codes

t25 = the stock turbo in a 2g car
16g = type of turbo upg
20g = type of turbo upg
t28 = type of turbo upg
t3/t4 = type of turbo upg
FP green = type of turbo upg
^^these are turbo types - you'll find many turbos taht dont have a g in them it's one of many turbo codes

RiceRocket18
02-25-2004, 11:42 PM
ok.. i think i kind of got it. so my car is a 4G63 with a 2g turbo ?

RiceRocket18
02-25-2004, 11:45 PM
ahh.. neve rmind.. now i finally got it... :D  my car is a 4G63 engine with T25 turbo and is a second generation eclipse :)

RiceRocket18
02-25-2004, 11:49 PM
so are most car's stock turbo T25? they're the lowest class among those you listed assume. how much boost do you get outta them... and is that where psi come in?.. what the hell is that :screwy:

KieR
02-25-2004, 11:57 PM
if by most cars then you mean eclipses, then yes 2g turbo eclipses come stock wiht a t25 first gen eclipses came stock with a slightly larger turbo -- a 14b

if you mean other cars like other makes and etc, then no they all have a myriad of turbos

they are smaller then those i listed becuase off the top of my head the turbos I am familiar with are those that will replace an eclipses turbo and are thus improvements off of a t25 :)

a t25 will not deal wiht large boost pressures becuase of it's small size and limited potential -- given, it is one of the smaller turbos on teh market (damn mitsu cost cuts  )-- an upgraded turbo will be able to handle many many more pounds of boost

psi is pounds per square inch, or a way of measuring the boost you are putting your turbo under. -- a turbo compresses air and forces it faster - the boost level is how much it compresses the air --- higher boost = higher psi = higher compression

i'm looking to get the big t28 turbo on my 2nd gen gst. has anyone had any experience with that turbo? what kind of mods do i need to complement this turbo?

I think KieR summed everything up well. If you have more questions, go ahead and put them here all at once so I can address them when I have time.

gsturbo11: that's a nice turbo, I don't have personal experience, but from what I've read, it's along the lines of a 16g in terms of flow. That means you'll want air (intake, 3 inch turbo-back, new BOV, UICP, possibly a better intercooler if you want to run the times that turbo is capable of) and fuel (550/660 injectors, pump, FPR if you get the 255) and a way to tune it, like a pocketlogger/safc combo, or DSMlink if you have a 1995, or want to buy an eprom ECU from a 95. oh yeah and boost gauge if you don't have it :)

EDIT>> for the spoiler stuff, I like low key instead of all show.. so i'd recommend the smaller one. It's a lot better than an aluminum double decker, but the bigger may just over-do it

For what it's worth, your car is the reason I love DSM's. 99 GSX, especially exactly what yours is (black, shiny, rims) is the best looking DSM ever!
