Keyless Entry Receiver Fix?

As a perpetual keyless complainer, I found the above link on the Pontiac site. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to. As the owner of many Sony products, cold solder joints have great meaning to me.

Has anyone tried this fix?

Fixed my receiver this morning. Getting the coating off the board took a couple of applications of lacquer thinner and an old toothbrush. I did only the three IC's and merely reheated the existing solder until it flowed.
