I am not car saavy so this question may seem elementary but here goes...my check engine light turns on for about 30 seconds and then shuts off. I checked the oil and it is not low. Is there anything else that I should be checking for and what may be causing this?

You need to have the codes read, Go to an auto parts store ,around here, Advance auto will read it at no charge. The codes will most likely tell you what is wrong.

I checked the level of coolant in the radiator and it was good. However, the level in the reservoir was extremely low. Could this be the cause of the light coming on?

Is it possible to have a leak in the reservoir?

Take it down to a local autozone or advance auto parts store, they will pull the codes for free. Do that and post back.

I took it down to Autozoen and asked them read the codes. They unfortunately did not have the right tool to do so. However, I have been keeping my eye on the level of coolant (keeping it up) and have not had the check engine light come on again. I think there may be a small leak.

Tighten all of your clamps.

Could me internal also. Will it leak if it is just sitting there, or will it leak when going down the road? Thats how i blew the engine in my chebbie. Intake manifold gasket leaked and then anti-freeze got in the oil and blew her up. Change the oil and see if it smels like antifreeze or if it has a greenish tint.

i work for ford trucks and if your check engine light comes on then there is a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) that has fauted more then one time. seeing that the only way to see why the light is on is to get the codes read, then u must have a scan tool to tell you what the problem is. since the autoparts store you took it to couldnt hook up to it i would advise you to take it to a ford truck dealership and have them check the codes for you.

Ummmm Maybe you shouldnt be driving. Thats sounds good and if you check your oil then your a retard and know absolutly nothing about a vehicle.
