airbrushing tamiya X-18

I'm pretty new to airbrushing. I am getting very nice results with the metallic colors (acrylic) by mixing about 50/50 with thinner. But, I tried airbushing X-18 semi-gloss black the other day and I got disappointing results.

I seem to be getting uneven glossiness over the flat surface. Any tips and suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks

When spraying Tamiya acrylics make sure your pressure is pretty high,25-30 PSI. Thinner to paint ratio should be more like 20% thinner to 80% paint. Also make sure you have a water trap, that could be water getting in the paint.

You must mix the paint very well too, i have noticed that X-18 tend to be flat at the end of the jar.

I have found it to be harder to paint than others, because you can't tell when it's completely mixed. 50% thinner is too much. The other guy's are right. I find it much easier to use the TS semi-gloss from a can vs. airbrushing it consistently. The flat colors are never a problem.

Try using the Tamiya rattlecan semigloss black if all else fails. It goes on pretty smooth...just a suggestion. :)
