Well I went to SECO Performance center to get a MSD Cap and Coil. I was pulling out and getting into the lane and began to accel. Well a girl came over and ripped my corner lens off, bent my fender in, ripped my front bumper/filler piece loose, bent my bumper/fender mount, and scratched up my 17" gun metal rim. Grrr....Lucky I have a set of Z3's, R33 front bumper, and extra clears at home. The police said it was here fault so we'll see what happens with the insurance. Just had to vent sorry...

Ok I have a question. How does an insurance company fixing my car work. Like I know I take it to the body shop and they give me a estimate. Well I have a R33 bumper and z3's sitting here at home. So I was wondering do they send me the money or the body shop?

depends on ur insurer or the other peoples insurer...i'd let them give an estimate and either try and get the cash or have them put ur stuff on the car and repaint it...but insurance companies vairy and what applies to me in my state may be different from what applies to u in ur state

once you find out the bodyshop its going to, you personally could go in and wxplain the situation! they may be willing to fit ur bumper and wings but claim the originals from the insurance

In iowa legally they must give the $$ to the owner of the car, so you'de get cash, then u can do what u want w/ it.

state laws may vary.

i would do that. but first i would call her ins. shoot, since it wasn't your fault i'd be calling every 5 mins until they learn your voice :evillol: i wouldn't tell them you already have parts...just ask who they send the check to. then call your ins and double check to make sure they aren't screwing you. after the estimates have been written and the check in hand THEN i would tell them you have the parts and all you need is mounting & painting :icon16:

Alright I just went through this with my other car.. you take it to a body shop.. YOU pay them and then the insurance pays you after the work is done. so it's up to you what you want to do.

umm...don't think that's how it works. Cause if you don't have the money how can you get it done??? Plus they aren't going to pay you for just anything.

Well i just got rear ended in calgary like 2 weeks ago...all i had to do was contact his insurance company(well my dad did since i had school and midterms) they sent me to a body shop, i got a estimate done by them..The insurance company approved the repairs and all i ahve to do now is drop it off to be fixed. And not a single cent has left my pocket

When I got rear-ended by a school bus (it was bus #13 too....) I just got the estimates (of course you give the highest to the insurance company), and my insurance company took care of it, and collected from the state's insurance.

I don't want the body shop to fix my car, I want the money. I have all the parts to fix it except the new rim. I just want the cash.

I had a kid hit me, and his parents wrote me a check for the body shop's estimate, because they didn't want their insurance to go up I suppose for their kid whacking me. I took that money and bought my own parts. The only work the body shop will do is pull the frame a little bit to straighten it out so I can bolt an OEM bumper and shit on it that I ripped (for $25, and not $200+ for new OEM) off an EX at a junkyard.
Girls don't have the same issues generally as boys with insurance rates, so she'll prolly just have her insurance company cut a check. Most places will send you the check directly, for an estimate from the body shop. You can choose to do what you want with the $$..The only drawback to this scenario is if the repairs ended up costing more than the estiamte, but it is always amazing how body shops come within $5 of their own estimate with insurance claims  - So good luck!
