over heating

My grand AM is over heating. It seems the fan is not running. I took it to a service center and they change the fan, but it is still not running. The thermostat and the Temperature sensor has been change. It starts to run hot with only a little bit of water drained from the engine from continuous over heating (just a little over the first mark on the temperature gauge). I think it could be the switch but I do not know where it is located. Even at high speeds the temperature stays a little over the first mark. The faster I go (75-80) the more it starts to over heat instead of being cooled by the wind.

water pump?

Wouldn't water be leaking from the water pump if it was bad?

drain you coolant and run a bottle of coolant flush throught the systrem. Sounds like either your coolant is old or you have a blockage somewhere.....or both

Does your fan run now? When I had the fan replaced they
did not replace the relay for the fan (so it cont. not to work) put the fan in backwards- it was actually pulling hot air over my engine instead of cooling it.I don't know much about cars, but I hope that info. might help.

It could very well be a cracked head or a head gasket. i have a 1994 grand am that overheated and it never leaked any coolant. the crack just allowed it to leak through the water jacket. i recommend that you pull the head and have it pressure checked, i doubt its the water pump they have a steel impeller and dont have a history for going bad, it also might be blockage, but i would highly recommend having the head pressure checked.......GOOD LUCK

either your radiator is blocked, or you have a bad t-stat. IF it was teh fans not kicking on, it would cool off as you drove. The water pump would leak or make noise if it was bad, so change the t-stat, and if it's a v-6, make sure to bleed the air out of the cooling system when you're done. If it still overheats, you have a blocked radiator.
