Click & Clack Won't Help!

Before I bought my '92 Passat 5 months ago, the owner had replaced the rear/front pads and rotors and the master cylinder. The brakes were still spongy, and we thought we'd figure it out for sure. We haven't. We replaced the master cylinder AGAIN, and did the rear calipers. Air is still getting in, but no brake fluid seems to be leaking. We tried replacing the seals on the master cylinder, but that did no good. As it is now, we bleed the brake lines every two weeks. It's getting old. Has anyone had a similar problem with a Passat? It's a great car, I love it, but this is absurd! (I tried Car Talk, but they haven't agreed to take my call.) THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER!

You're definitely getting air out? When you bleed them are they okay for a while, then get worse? Do they ever feel correct after bleeding? Is the air in the front or rear or both?

Most of the air is coming out of the rear. In the front, there's not as much. After we bleed them, they're great, and get gradually worse over about two weeks, when it's time to do it again.

It sounds like all that can be left is a very small leak in a line or hose. Not big enough to see fluid leaking out, but enough to eventually let in enough air to cause problems. Any cracing in the rubber hoses or spliced brake lines?
