er... last I heard... comfort is a good part of shifting...if he doesn't like his current knob, why is it rice if he wants to fucking change it? god damn... I knew if I had a shitty knob, I'd change it so it was comfortable.

Show me one specifically designed for comfort and not looks. I know of one snd if I saw a hurst T handle in a import that would be a site. usually the MFR puts a shift knob on there thats going to please the consumer. 9 out of 10 they don't please everybody but if you go from a soft leather wrapped knob to a billet aluminum(?) I don't think comfort is what your looking for

Ppl, just answer techno240's questions instead of askin y he wants to do it. techno240: i just removed the shift knob in order to install a new head unit. it is EXTREMELY difficult to remove, you WILL most likely get a blister. So I hope you're a strong guy/girl. It is a screw on knob. You have to twist it toward the radio to get it off. Grip the bottom with your right (I'm guessin that's your strong hand) and the top with your left. Now twist your right and left hand with all your might. I read somewhere that u can use pliers to get the knob off with a dish towel wrapped around it, but that didn't work for me.

Try a pipe wrench. It should unscrew counter-clockwise.

Who said he was going to an aluminum knob ozzy? I know he didnt.
shift knobs are like controllers - people like different ones - he might not like the chunky ass ones that are in s13's... he might prefer a smaller, thinner one. So just stfu and think before you start shootin off the R word.

it would also help to just be able to remove the knob to drop the transmission rather than the entire shifter like i did. If the shift knob does unscrew then man that must be a bitch.

btw, i have a shitty shift nob, i think the kid before me made it in shop class, but it doesnt screw on, there is a gasket in there, and set screws, but im guessing they were stripped, cuz there are no screws, how could i make this thing not rattle, without much work?? i like the feel of it, but would rather have a different one, but then there is the fact that i have absolutely no money, and am 900 bucks in the hole

umm... they make leather shift knobs in short and tall, I'd say those are more for comfort than looks, my rx-7 has a tall one and I would kill for a short one.
also sometimes if you change some of the interior the knob won't match so you could want to change it for that reason
but if they do change it cuz they want one that looks cooler, who cares? as long as it isn't one of those gay neon ones I wouldn't worry too much about it.

On mine it has leather on the outside but i peeled it off and it has just a knob with the shift pattern on it. Much better than a wanna be classy shifter in my opinion. The leather started to wear away anyways along with the leather on the steering wheel.

i used some craftsman robogrips, and a towel to get mine off. it just screws on but nissan puts thread sealer on it so that it won't just spin off. Just twist hard as hell and it will come off. Once you put the new one on I suggest using thread sealer again.
